Highway Projects Listed
For Commission Meeting
Pavement beat to pieces by
heavy industrial traffic in six
Douglas County cities will re
ceive the attention of the State
Highway Commission in Portland
on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The commission has called for
bids on asphaltic concrete paving
in Suthcrlin. Oakland Mvrr!
Creek, Riddle, Glendale and
Reedsport.
Bids to be opened also include
construction of 1.9 miles of high
way roadbed on the Booth Ranch
unit of the Shady-Canyonville sec
tion of the relocated Pacific High
way. Her is the work that will be
done on the city streets:
Suthcrlin: Wideninn: .35 miles of
the existing surface of East Cen
tral Avenue between Willamette
Street and South Side Road to pro
vide for a uniform 20-foot black
top pavement flanked by four-foot
shoulders capable of withstanding
heavy logging traffic.
Oakland: Grade widening of
.15 miles of Stearns Avenue be

provide a 20-foot travelway of
blacktop flanked by two-foot shoul
ders, replacing the existing bitu

three-inch blacktop 20 feet wide
to be placed over the existing bit
uminous surfacing and widened
base. The new roadway will be
capable of supporting . hevy in
dustrial traffic.
Reedsport: Improvement of
Greenwood Avenue between Ump-
?ua and Fourth streets. Plans are
or blacktop pavement varying in
width from 20 to 40 feet to provide
parking. The street surface will
withstand excessive wear from
increased local and industrial traf
fic. The grading project on the
Booth Ranch unit of the highway
is the major single item for the
county on the commission's agen
da. It includes construction of road
bed from Booth Ranch to Boomer
Hill Road, about ZVi miles north
of Myrtle Creek.
The unit Is the lust in plans for
Pacific Highway relocation in the
present five-year building pro
gram, which ends' next year.
The Highway will be two lanes,
except for four lanes nt an inter
change with the old highway at
the north cjid of the project. The
completion date -is set for Oct.
15, 1955.

also are of local Interest.
One calls for construction of 1

Pacific and Eastern Railway '
tracks just south of Cottage
Grove. The second is for 14,800
