Charity Racket Probers
Plan Control Measures
NEW YORK W State probers
of charity rackets who have heard
revelations ranging from phonies
soliciting over the telophone from
behind closed doors to fake "nuns"
begging in public plan to offer
control measures early in the 1954
legislative session.
A joint legislative investigating1
committee wound up four days of.
public hearings here Thursday, and
plans to hold others later in var
ious parts of the state.
State Sen. Bernard Tompkins,
the committee chairman, ex
pressed hope that the disclosure
of racketeering and the bonanzas
reaped by collectors in some char-!
ity drives would not deter rh i
public from giving liberally to
nonesi ana weii-managea cruirtty

Two Headed Baby Said
To Be Still Satisfactory
Wl The condl-,
tion of the week-old two-headed
Doy continues the same, "satis-
lacrory," at Rtley Hospital.
The baby remained under ob
servation and Dr. John r Vnn
Nuys, dean of Indiana University
meuicai uenier, sam rne oov would
remain at the hospital u:til he no
longer requires medical care.
An announcement that the boy
was ready to be takn to his par
ents' home in Washington, Ind.,
was a misunderstanding, Dr. Van
Nuys said.
Dr. Van Nuys said the baby,
born with two heads, four arms
and two legs, probably would re
main under doctors' care for some
time. He was reported making the
progress of a normal newborn
since he was brought to the hospi
tal from Washington last Saturday
night.
