Raver Successor
Being Studied
By Sec. McKay
WASHINGTON in - An Interior
Department spokesman said Fri
day Secretary McKav "has in
mind a possible successor, though
the field might not have been nar
rowed to one man," if Dr. Paul
J. Baver resigns next week as
Bonnevil'e Power Administrator.
Raver has been nominated by
his mayor oi aeavue u oe super
intendent of the city's munician!
light system. This job would pay
$15,000 a year compared to the
$14,800 he now gets. Raver said
he will accent the aDDointment if
uie u council votes nim the job
for a four-year term.
The council is expected to act
Monday. Pacific Northwest news
papers say it will confirm Raver's
appointment.
The interior Spokesman told re
porters McKay has in mind some
one to succeed Raver "if. and
when he resigns," but added that
does not mean the decision has
narrowed to one man. He declined
to name any names.
Speculation In the Pacific North
west has centered on Dr. William
A. Pearl, professor at Washington
State College: Ofell H. Johnson
Seattle attorney; Clif Erdahl, Ta
coma power executive: and Orren
Brownson, chief of general services
lor Bonneville.
McKay is on his way to Oregon
by train for the Ohnstmas holidays.

Thf Children Born,
All On December 16
PORTLAND m Mr. and Mrs.'
Harry Owens have three children.'
Each was born in a different year.
And each was born on Dec. 16. ,
A mathematics professor here
estimated the odds against that at
I to 18,251,825. , -
A daughter was born four years
ago, a son three years ago, and
another son Wednesday. .'
Mrs. Owens chuckled when she
heard what the odds, were. She
insisted there was no coincidence
about the Dec. 16 births.
"It was planned that way," she
said.
