Commerce is offering a total of
$100 in prize to the family dis
1 playing the best outdoor Christ
mas decorations this year. Resi
dents in the Myrtle Myrtle Creek
and Tri-City area ire urged to
decorate their homes. The prize
winners will be announced several
days before Christmas.

County performed the ceremony.
Six candidates were given the ob
ligation. The degree team consisted of

Church Sunday at 7:30 p.m. A

will have luncheon together at the
church Dec. 17th. followed by a
Christmas party. There will be an
exchange of gifts.

Dillard Church
To Observe Yule

Christmas will be observed at
the Dillard Methodist Church on
Sunday beginning with a program
for the primary and pre-school
children at 10 a.m. At the 11
o'clock worship hour the choir
will give Christmas music under
uie leadership ot Paul Dodd. The
pastor's message will be "They
Came With Haste."
The principal Christmas pro
gram will be at 7:30 p.m. It will
De presented oy uie juniors, in
termediates and young adults,
Special music will be presented by
the senior Methodist youth fellow
ship. Everyone is asked to bring
a toy or a candy bar for the local
children's basket of Christmas
cheer.
Travels To Th East
Mrs. Elizabeth Bryce left Thurs
day for the East to spend several
months visiting her sons and
daughters in Detroit, Chicago andi
I'miaaejpma. Mrs. Bryce, who
makes her home with her son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.'
George McDowell, and sons, Alec
and Eddie, in south Dillard, was
called home recently to the bed
side of her son. Russell Bryce,
who was critically ill in a Port
land sanitarium. Bryce is report
ed to be slowly recovering from
the complications of injuries now
at ms nome in south Dillard.
Mrs. Wade Gentry is reported
to be recovering satisfactorily in
the Mercy Hospital in Roseburg
from a prolonged siege of yellow
jaundice according to word from
her son, Jerry Gentry. She will
be able to come borne from the
hospital in about a week.
Navy Man Discharged
Oliver Fosback has been dis
charged from the Nay and re
turned 'home. He has been doinz
oversea duty In the past year and
arrived in San Diego about 10
days ago. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Fos
back and daughter-in-law, Mrs. 01
ivcr Fosback and daughter, Patsy
and Lois Fosback made' the trip
to San Diego to meet rosoacK and
bring him to Dillard.
'Mrs. Joe Tealer, recent resident
ot Dillard was a weexena guest
of ner son-in-law and aaugnter,
Mr. and Mrs. Loyde Remming
ton and family. When she returned
to her new home in Salem Sunday
she took their daughter and chil
dren home with her for a visit.

L. Cote of Saco, Me., enjoys a
smoke at Frankfurt, Germany,
and thinks about Ms six-day, unre
lieved stretch of guard duty on
the Rhine River. Assigned to
guard two boats during maneu
vers, his outfit went off and forgot
him. German children brought
bim sandwiches after his rations
gave out. Eventually his outfit
was "reminded" and relieved him.
He was promoted to private first
class for his "strong sense of duty,
judgment and dependability."
