Tenmile School
Tries New Form
Of Government

The four tvper grades at Tenmile
School have unaugurated a new
system of student government by
lorming a student council compos
ed of a boy and girl from each
room.
The group discusses school prob
lems, both from a student and ad
ministrative viewpoint. Then
memhers return to their respec
tive rooms to give a review to
the classes of the council's activ
ities. Each room elects a "Citizen
of the Week," a student chosen for
outstanding scholarship antl behav
ior during the preceding week. C.
A. Dysinger, principal of the Ten
mile School, states that while this
is something new in school activ
ities, much good Is to be gained
from it, both by students and faculty-
Graduation Studad
The mothers of the eighth grade
graduating class met at the
Tenmile School last Monday after
school to discuss all angles of the
graduation program. Refreshments
were served to those attending.
The sixth grade class in the Ten
mile school have a defense stamp
program and are selling savings
stamps. Their teacher, Mrs. Lois
Dennis, and one of the mothers,
Mrs. Ted Anderson, are their ad
visors. .

for a federal law guaranteeing
public access to government rec
ords awaits editors arriving
Wednesday for the annual meet
ing of the American Society of
Newspaper Editors.
The meeting, opening Thursday,
coincides with the publication of
"The People's Right to Know," a
book by Harold R. Cross, spec
ialist in newspaper law who was
retained by ASNE to study legal
barriers to information about pub
lic affairs.
The 405-page volume will be pre
sented by Cross at the editors'
closing session on Saturday. It was
acclaimed by James S. Pope,
chairman jf the ASNE commiUce
on freedom of information, as "a
manual of arms for a battle we
had only begun to comprehend."

Tractor Upends
Near Glendale;
Damage Slight

A tractor, belonging to the Wiley
Construction company, slid off a
truck and was overturned on the
Glendale Road near the city limits
last Thursday. Damage was not
heavy according to the owner, W.
W. Wiley ot Ashland.
The tractor, which Is part of the
equipment brought here to level the
site for Glendsle's new high school,
had been used In Glendale during
the day on the Bob Jones prop
erty, which is being readied for con
struction of a new telephone ox-
change building. A Wiley company
truck loaded the tractor that eve
ning to return it to the high school
grounds, but it was thought unnec
essary to ohain it in place. The
red clay remaining on the tracks
was slippery and when the truck,
driven by L. W. Bates, was crowd
ed onto the low shoulder of a curve
by a logging truck whirt swung
too wide, it tilted, and the trac
tor slid out, landing: upside down
by the road. The accident occurred
about hall a mile from the city
limits.
Missionary Will Speak
The Azalea Community Church
Women's Circle will meet Friday,
April 17 at the church building at
Ouines Creek for a notluck din
ner to be followed by a talk by
Arthur Mouw, Christian Alliance
missionary to Indonesia. Members
and friends of the church are urged
to be present. The ladies will meet
at 11 o'clock, and it is expected
that some of the men who are not
able to remain through the day,
will be present for the dinner.

parents of a five pound, one ounce
boy. Larry Howard, born April 4,

Milk Administrator

Weidel Monday was named Ore
gon state milk marketing administrator.
The State Board of Agriculture
appointed him to the $550-a-montli
job after accepting the resignation
of Thomas L. Ohlscn. Weidel hai
been Ohlsen's assistant since 1931.
Ohlsen, who has been associated
with milk marketing since the state
began controls in 1933, wui con
tinue as an agricultural economist
to study milk problems. He also
