Following the business meeting,
Mrs. Crooch presented tho pro
gram on the arrangement of indoor
planters. After suggesting ideas for
planters, the provided for the
group a large green table planter
and a dozen types of green plants
and asked each girl at the meeting
to take a turn at arranging the
planter. At the conclusion of the
program Mrs. Bill Prentiss re
ceived the planter as a gift.
Beta Sigma Pbi was founded in
Roseuurg 16 years ago, Feb. 14,
1937. Since that time the sorority
has made a rapid growth and now
includes six very active chapters
in this city, fn honor of the oc
casion Mrs. Don Gum presented
to the chapter a beautiful heart
shaped birthday cake bearing the
words, "Happy Birthday. Beta Sig
ma Phi."
The next meeting will be held

burg girl, has been selected as a
member of the National Associa
tion of Dance Affiliate Artists Inc.,

Jeanne is only IS years of age,
which is as young as members
are accepted in the National Asso
ciation. She was sponsored by Joe
Price, vice president of the Asso
ciation and a teacher of acrobatics
in New York.
Jeanne has been studying under
Donald and Maria Dare in Port
land and she operates a large
dance studio in Astoria. Her spring
dance recital will take place in
March. She is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. B. R. Maddox of Astoria
and has a host of relatives and
friends in Roseburg, where the
family formerly resided.

day evening at the school. The affair was under the aus
pices of the PTA with Mrs. E. L. Tauscher, Mrs. M. C.
.Bowker and William Unrath in charge. Dick Strayer s or

number of parents os chaperones. A recording was made
and broadcast over KRNR at 1 1 p.m. Ralph Patterson of ,
the Roseburg Scholl of Dancing taught the students ball
room dancing in a 10-weeks course, which has just been

Mead (nee Verna Lee LaRaut)
at her home on Deer Creek Lane.
The rooms were attractive with
blue crepe festoons. Bridal shower
games were followed by the open
ing of many lovely gifts. The host
ess served ice cream, coffee and
a three-tiered white frosted cake
decorated with bluebirds and pink
roses and topped with a bridal!

Back From Portland Mrs.
Paul R. Shanklin returned to her
home In Roseburg Tuesday, follow
ing a May in Portland since
Sunday, whero she visited h er
brother, Eugene Springer, who is
a medical patient at the Veterans
Hospital. Mr, Springer is reported
much improved in health and is
now walking. His wift and their
daughter, Marilyn, of Roseburg
spent Sunday visiting him in Port
land. Visits- A Harrfordt Lt. How
ard Heiner, who left Thursday by
West Coast Air Lines for Camp
Stoneman, Calif., for overseas duty
in the Far East, was a house guest
of Dr. and Mrs. Roy Hanford for
the past week. Lt. Heiner was
graduated from R.H.S. in 194i.
leaving for the University of Ida
ho, where he was graduated in
1951. Lt. Hclncr's wife, Peggy, and
son, Danny, will reside with Lt.
Heiner's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Roy Heiner In Lewiston, Idaho. LI.
Heiner, brother of Mrs. Hanford,
is the only son of Mr. and Mrs.
Roy Heiner.
