Mrs. Mildred Herman, secretary
of the Red Cross from Roseburg,
spoke on the "Activities of the Red
Cross in Douglas County," and
talked of the work being done.
It was decided to have a bene
fit card party at the American Le
gion Memorial Hall Friday eve
ning, Jan. 30. Proceeds will go to
ward buying playground equip
ment for the Blind School at Sa
lem. Bridge, :anasta and pinochle
will be in play with prizes being
awaraea to tne winners, iteiresn
ments will be served.
It was decided to have a "Travel
ing Basket" to be sent from mem
ber to member.
The Lady Lions expressed ap
preciation to those who helped in
the removal of the Christmas dec
orations and putting them away
for the following year,

A large number of parents and
students enjoyed the program fur
nished by the various youth
groups of the Green Community
at the PTA meeting held Jan. 12,
at the Evergreen Grange HalL
The Campfire Girls presented a
skit portraying their activities and
were led by Mrs. Hampton. The
Boy Scouts demonstrated the build
ing of a shelter made from tree
boughs and branchea and they
were led by Mr. Nelson.
Four Cub Scouts, one from each
of the four dens in the area, gave
the Scout pledge and salute and
they were led by. Mr. Smith. Sev
eral Green Sunday School students
recited Bible verses and were led
by Mrs. Foree.
A report of the Junior Red Cross
activities was made by Linda Da
mon and Mrs. Austin is the lead
er of the group. A demonstration,
showing types of sandwiches, was
presented by two membera of Mrs.
Willis ms' 4-H Cooking Club.
During the business meeting the
resignation of Jay Winters as Boy
Scout Institutional representative
was accepted and John Cornllsen
was unanimously voted to fill the
position.'
Several pleas were made for
more leadera for all of the youth
activities in the school and com
munity. Mr. Smith's sixth grade room
won the room count.
Following the adjournment a
social hour was enjoyed with the
fifth grade mothers serving re
freshments. ,

MEETS AT

The Riverside PTA held It's
regular monthly meeting Monday
evening at tne naenoower gymnasium.
Mrs. A. L. Scott resigned as
magazine chairman and Mrs. Un
der was appointed to take her
place. Mrs. Lockward's fifth grade
room won the room prize, a flower
planter. Mr. Ladd told the group
that the next meeting in February
will be held in the new River
side gym as it is rapidly Bearing
completion.

RECENT MEETING
Tuesday evening was the month
ly meeting of the Calapooia Farm
Bureau. A potluck dinner was
served to the 44 members present
and their guest. County Agricultur
al Agent, J. Roland Parker.
After the business meeting,
which was in charge of Vice Pres
ident, Walter Slater, Mr. Parker
told the group of his trip to Alaska
and showed slide pictures of the
trip. Mr. Parker also awarded
pins to the Calapooia Rustlers 4-H
Club, which is sponsored by the
Farm Bureau. Membera of the
