Reedsport Defense Housing Will
Get Underway; FHA Asks For Bids
The Federal Housing Adminis
tration office in Portland will be

housing in the Reedsport "critical
defense housing area" beginning

Applications will be received
through Nov. 7 at the FHA office
in the Lincoln Building in Port
land. The program of 50 housine un
its to be built in the Reedsport
area was announced' recently by
the Housing ind Home Finance!
Agency in Washington.
All of the programmed housinz
is intended for in-migrant defense
workers of Gardiner Lumber Com
pany, plywood division, the desig
nated defense establishment in the
ansa. . .
Today's announcement by FHA
that it is ready to receive applica
tions means that the program can
now get started, Arrington said.
Details of the defense housing
program for this area are as fol
lows: Of the 50 housing units pro
grammed for the area, 25 are to
be rental and 25 sales housing.
Of the rental units, 15 are plan
ned as two-bedroom units with a
maximum rent of $60 and 10 as
units of three or more bedrooms
with a maximum rent of $70. Of
the sales units 15 are designed as
two-bedroom units with a maxi
mum sales price of $8000 and 10
as units of three or more bed
rooms with a maximum price of
$9000.
The maximum rents specified
are shelter rents exclusive of ex
tra charges for various utilities
and services which may be ap
proved by the FHA office in
amounts consistent with normal
charges in the a r e a for such
services.
In considering applications the
FHA will take into consideration
the following factors:
1. The proximity of the site of
the proposed housing to the de
fense plants ,or installations, and
the desirability of the lite with
respect to transportation, commer
cial and community facilities and
services, utilities, street improve
ments ana similar relevant fact
ors.
2. The rents or sales price io

in terms of number ot rooms and
