MANDALAY, Burma Wl A 30-year-old
Japanese soldier, des
cribed as the last straggler of
remnants of the Japanese occupa
tion army, was discovered living
wilh an aged Burmese couple near
here.
Police brought the man to a
hospital alter he had h"en severe
ly knifed by villa during a
quarrel over a lo. priie. He
said he did the co farming,
fishing, weaving. l-chopping
and other odd jobs.

from Folkestone, England, to Cap Gris-Nez, France. The miniature
model pictured above gives an Idea of how it may look. Two
railway sections and two motor vehicle roads will take up most of
the space. Such a tunnel was proposed In 1880, but opposition by
the British War Office stymied the project.

Korean war veteran found guilty of violating a Washington, D. C,
statute which prohibits painting an auto so as to ridicule its
maker, points to the word "Lemon" painted on the trunk lid of
his aulo. Farkas plans an appeal to the Supreme Court if he can
raise the money.

meeting Aug. 12.

center director; Cal Hunter was
re-elected chairman; Mrs. Allen
Esslcstrom, secretary - treasurer;
Walter Slater, vice chairman;
Maude Cole, re elected associated
women's chairman and Hazel
Haines, vice chairman.
Following the business meeting,
the large turn-out of members en
joyed refreshments served by the
hostesses, Mrs. Hazel Haines and
Mrs. Doris Bacon.
Last Wednesday atternoon Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Austin and fam
ily were pleasantly surprised when
a sister-in-law, Mrs. Marian Aus
tin, and daughters, Maxine and
Anna May, of Elroy, Wis., and
Miss Agnes Burke, a teacher from
Milwaukee, Wis., dropped in to
pay a visit.
The group drove to Central
Point, Ore., on Thursday to visit
