Campus Building
For Fall Opening
OREGON STATE COLLEGE
The summer sprucing up program
it Oregon State College this year
is emphasizing improvement of
grounds, parking areas and streets
along with a limited amount of new
building and remodeling.
Only major campus construction
underway is that of the new west
wing of the home economics build
ing. Now approximately one-fourth
completed, the new wing will add
38.000 square feet of floor space
and make possible an expanded
program of instruction and re
search in foods, clothing, nutri
tion and housing.
Just completed and awaiting in
stallation of equipment is the new
animal diagnostic laboratory of
the agricultural experiment sta
tion. Ready to be started is a new
pre-fabricated stock judging struc
ture which will be used fir live
stock instruction and studr.nt ani
mal exhibits. Five new tennis
courts also are planned.
The other new building is taking
place at the physical plant head
quarters where a series of ware
houses is being put up to house
campus equipment and materials.
A special retaining wall to hold
some 5000 tons of sawdust for the
heating plant is now in place.
The men's gymnasium, used
from 1915 until completion of the
new coliseum in 1950, for inter
collegiate athletics campus meet
ings and men's physical education
is being remodeled into the center
for men's p.e. and intramural ath
letics. A long-range program for the
remodeline has been drafted and
work will be done over a period
of years as funds become avail
able. This vear. a $100,000 con
tract has been let for the installa-1
lion of a new filtration plant to
serve the men's and women's
swimming pools and for improve
ment of shower room equipment
and facilities.

coliseum have necessitated the es

to handle sporting event crowds.

in that immediate area.
Aluminum Price Boost

WASHINGTON Wl Aluminum
producers won a ceiling price in
crease of one cent per pound in
raw aluminum Wednesday and five
per cent on ingot and fabricated
nrnriucta.
The Aluminum Company of
America and the Reynolds Metals
Co., both had asked an increase
of 2 cents per pound in the price
of pig or raw aluminum and ten
per cent on aluminum products.
The Kaiser Aluminum and Chem
ical Corporation request was high
er. -Kaiser
asked 2 35 cents per pound
on pig and 12.5 per cent on alum
inum products.
