Oregon's highway loll for the first
six months of the year to 178. The
preliminary figure, released
Thursday by the secretary of
state's office. Is an Indication, de
partment officials said, of two
things:
1. Although more accidents in j
volving property damage and in !
juries are ocnurring, deaths so far
this year are slightly lower than i
last year when 189 were killed in :
the first six months, and
2. The 40 June deaths, highest
monthly count for the year, her
aid arrival of the year's worst
traffic killing months the sum
mer vacation season.
