Warren aaid Tuesday claims had
poured into government offices
since January when the supreme
court ruled some government print
ing office employees are entitled
to premium pay in addition to reg
ular pay for holiday service from
the fall of 1943 to the fall of 1945.
Warren's ruling In effect says:
No contract, no case.
Both the high court and the court
of claims concluded that journey
men printers were entitled to more
money because of a holiday clause
in a 1924 wage agreement. It pro
vided time and one-half pay for
actual work on a holiday, in ad
dition to regular pay for that day.
But the Army and Navy reported
so such agreement affecting their
employes existed prior to 1946.
Warren said that, since 1938, the
per diem Army or Navy worker
has received only regular pay for
a holiday whether he worked
or not, and added:
"The decision of the Supreme
Court does not require any
change."

Herrick is missing and presumed
buried in the snows of the high
Sierra.
to most residents tne name on
this 78-year-old grizsled prospector
means only another miner who
might strike it rich before dying.
But to some old-timers the name
recalls an Oklahoma congressman
who served only two years in
Washington but kept himself in the
limelight. .
1 Herrick went to Congress in 1921
as a Republican from solidly Dem
ocratic Oklahoma. The Democrat
who won died, so Herrick, who cam
paigned by plane an oddity in
those days got the seat.
He ran a private beauty contest
for the admitted purpose of picking
a bride, and he sued and was
sued by a dozen women.
Fellow congressmen called him
the "biggest crank" in the house,
but he referred to himself as
"the most popular man In Amer
ica." Herrick drifted off after 1923 and
wound up in this mountain country.
He and another miner took off In
January to stake a mining claim.
Search parties found his part
ner's frozen body Saturday. Search
for Herrick was abandoned.
