SALEM (AP) Oreuon's most explosive issues of re
cent years milk control, liquor, old age pensions, daylight
saing time and fish traps are coming to the front again.
These issues are up before the people in the eight initia
tive measures that are being circulated for signatures. Each
initiative needs only 2(5,296 signatures to get on the Novem
ber ballot, which probably will
ballot in 2a years.
Twelve legislative acts will be
on the ballot. The eight initiatives
might be joined by others, because
there' still plenty of time to file
initiatives and get them signed up.
The deadline for getting signatures
is July 3.
Most nf the eieht measures will
"rnake the ballot, because it Isn't
much trouble to get that many
signatures when one or more large
organized groups are among the
sponsors.
Pension Laws Assailed
The old age pension quarrel,
which comes up every election,

age pension groups to repeal two

soring an initiative to close the
river to all fishing during hours A
darkness. Since a lot of the best
fishing is at night, this one really
would fix the gill netters.
Some of the stale's barbers,
wanting a five-daj week, are be
hind an initiative to make barber
shops close up on Mondays.
Incidentally, there is a law to
prevent operation of barber shops
on Sundays. This is the only law
we can find that prevents any kind
of business from being open Sun
