A. E. Williams, commander of District 16, acted as commander of the post for the installation pro ceedings. The installing officer was T. F. Holmes, deputy chief of staff of Oregon, deputized by State Com mander Ashworth, who could not attend becuase of weather condi tinnt in Portland. There were about 60 in attend ance for the program. The new group is the baby post of the VFW, the first to be Inducted in 1952. No name has yet been chosen. Camas Valley veterans were first interested in forming VFW post a year ago by John Angland, Canyonville commander, who acted as chaplain for the induction cer emony. The Camas Vallev hall has been donated as a meeting place to the veterans by Ted Heilman. The meeting dates were set at twic a month, the next meeting being Valley Post will be in District 16, which includes Roseburg, Myrtle Creek, Canyonville, Riddle, Drain, and Oakland-Sutherlin. The scene called for Anns te slap him across the face. , , Civilian Return Of Ike For GOP Meet Still Open WASHINGTON I Senator Lodge (R.-Mass.) said Wednesday he believes the door still is open for Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, to return to civilian life before the' Republican presidential nomi natine convention. Lodge told a reporter he does not interpret Eisenhower s state ment that he would not ask for relief from his European defense assignment as foreclosing all pos sibilityaside from presidential ac tionthat the general take off his uniform before July. "But I agree that he can not make any statement on the issues of the pre-convention campaign while he is still in uniform," Lodge said, a strong Eisenhower suppor ter. Lodge said in some respects he supported the Eisenhower cam paign will parallel that which won the GOP nomination for the late .Wendell L. Wiltkie in 1940. "We are going to mobilize the sentiment for the general which is sweeping the country," Lodge declared.
