Cauldor said she was aroused by
smoke and the moanine of her
nusoana. a neignDor dragged
Caulder from the chair. He died
soon after in a hospital of third
degree burns.

Camas Yalley

A cement foundation for Uie pro
posed grange hall was given the
"go-ahead" signal Tuesday night
at the regular grange business
meeting in Camas Valley. Accord
ing to treasurer, Ruby Moore, the
Camas Valley grange has money
enouh in its building fund to put
down a concrete slab in accord
ance with the building plans. Er
nest Booth, executive committee,
gave an estimate of the materials
and money needed to start the
building.
New members who were given
first and second degree obligation
were Mr. and Mr. La Mar Or
mond. It was decided to Invite
the Boy Scouts of Camas Valley
and their parents to be present
at the grange social meeting in
January, at which time the Boy
Scout charter will be presented
by a representative from Kose
burg. The Grange is the sponsor
ing organization in the Valley.
Mrs. Art Jones reported on
the chest x-ray mobile unit which
is scheduled to come to Camas
Valley this year. State officers
were voted upon. Milo Claughton
reported on the committee for or
taining a traveling library for
rJamas Valley. The first problem,
according to Mr. Clauhton, t to
find a place to house the books,
and then determine a method of
distribution. Master Lee Wilson
gave a report on fire insurance
turned in by Rrange representa
tive Robert Wheeler. The grange
is working to have insurance rates
lowered because of the protection
offered by the fire truck.
The Home Economics club an
nounced plans for a grange Christ
mas party Dec. 18. Presents, not
to cost more than fifty cents, will
ba exchanged.
William Gross
Taken By Death
William Gross, 54, formerly of
Roseburg and vicinity, died Fri
day. He was born in Virginia,
Nov. 24, 1897, and had been
resident of Roseburg 40 years.
Until illness forced bim to re
tire three years ago, he was a
lineman for Copco.
Surviving are a ton, William
Gross Jr., Bremerton, Wash.;
eight tistert, Emma Sauceman,
Bremerton; Margaret Allen,
Waitsburg, Wash.; Maude Theil,
Yoncalla; Rebecca Campbell,
Myrtle Dear, Nell Devine, Ethel
Silva and Mae Tavener, all of
Clatskanie, Ore.; one brother,
John Gross, Roseburg, and sev
eral neices and nephews.
Services were held Monday at 2
p.m. in the Methodist church of
Yoncalla with the Rev. Knight of
ficiating. Interment followed in the
Yoncalla cemetery. Sterns mortu
ary, Oakland, was in charge ot ar
rangements.
F. M. Pratt, Formerly
Of Deer Creek, Passes
Floyd M. Pratt, 81, died In a
Eugene hospital Sunday, following
a long illness. His wne is a pne
umonia patient in the hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Pratt resided in
Douglas county 16 years, and un
til a year ago made their home
on Deer creek road, where they
celebrated their 51st wedding an
niversary two years ago.
Mr. Pratt is survived by his
widow. Funeral services will be
held at Poole-Larsen funeral home
in Eugene Wednesday at 1:30
p.m., with interment in West
Lawn cemetery.
