Clarence P. Shedd, of the Yale
divinity school faculty, takes is
sue with those who ' believe
America is treading in the path
of Sodom and Gomorrah because
of the current epidemic of col
legiate sports scandals, political
corruption and , widespread vice
and crime. '
"The condition of the patient Is
healthy," Shedd told an inter
viewer, and the present outlook "is
certainly not dark."
A pioneer in religion In higher
education, Shedd says there has
been a quiet rebirth of interest
in religion on college campuses
in the last ten years.
Curing the decade, he aaid, the
number of full-time college chap
lains has increased four-fold, from

legiate "revival marathons" as
"superficial and temporary,"
