ALL-DAY MEETINO
The Olalla-Tenmile Home Ex
tension unit met at the home of
Hazel Ison at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
The meeting was called to order
by the chairman, Hazel Ison.
Bessie Smith will serve as secretary-treasurer,
taking the place
of Mickey Bourassa, who resigned.
The members voted to start
their meetings at 11:00 a.m. and
to have a potiuck luncheon at
noon. This will enable the moth
ers who have small children in
school to be home when their chil
dren return home from school.
Vera Erbe was appointed 4-H
chairman to serve on the 4-H
council in this school district.
The following chairmen were
appointed: hospitality, Alyce
Dwight; publicity, Louisa Coats;
finance, Maureen Muetzel; World
citizenship, Amy Erbe; luncheon,
Julia Julia Breitenbucher and pr
gram planning, Adda Ollivant.
Vera Erbe and Amy Erbe were
appointed project leaders for the
December meeting which will be,
"Holiday Decorations from Na
ture." Louisa Coats and Julia Bci
tenbucher were appointed project
leaders for the February meeting
which will be, "Oven Meals."
The business meeting was ad
journed and the members enjoyed
group singing. At noon a delicious
luncheon was enjoyed.
In the afternoon Miss Lou Ow
ens, assistant 4-H leader for the
county, gave a very interesting
demonstration on, "Nutritious
Meals at Low Cost," how one
should consider color, flavor and
texture as well as nutrition in
preparing meals and to make
them as attractive as possible.
The next meeting will be at
the home of Maureen Muetzel
with Maureen Muetzel and fi
sie Smith as project leaders. The
subject of the demonstration will
be, "Party Planning." The date
will be announced later.

GENE SMITH'S BAND
TO PLAY AT VETS
Gene Smith's accordian band
will open its winter season of per
formances by playing at the vet
erans hospital Saturday evening
at 7:30 p.m.. following the Elks
fight program.
Among those participating will

Pat Niday, Marjorie Gladwill, Ken

entertain and teach the boys at
the hospital.
The performance Is rendered
by the Zonta club to patients at
the hospital.

ENTERTAINS CLUB
Mrs. Kittle Jobe graciously en
tertained members of the Yon
calla Business and Professional
Women's club at a theatre party
Thursday evening. The ladies gath
ered at the Central office at six
o'clock and were taken to Rose
burg where they enjoyed seeing
"Jim Thorpe, All American" at
the Indian theatre.
Returning home, they stopped at
the "Airport cafe" where refresh
ments were served. Those enjoying-
the evening were Mrs. Jean

MEET FOR BRUNCH
A group of Riversdale mothers
met recently at Mrs. L. D. Mc
Allister's home for a ten o'clock
brunch. The purpose of the meet
ing was to form a Brownie Girl
Scout troup. Mrs. McAllister will
be the scout leader with Mrs.
Jones as her assistant. Mrs. C. F.
Hall, Mrs. Dayle Webster and
Mrs. Harold Glover are committee
members.

OF EVERGREN GRANGE
HOLD NOON MEETING
The Home Economics club of
the Evergreen Grange met at the
hall Thursday for a noon potiuck
luncheon with Mrs. Nelle Lander,
Mrs. Jesse Thomas and Mrs.
Hubie Bloom acting as hostesses.
The business session was con
ducted by vice-chairman, Mrs.
Jesse Thomas, and secretary Mrs.
Vivian Burgess. Plans were dis
cussed for some projects to make
money for the organization in the
near future. It was announced
that all ladies that have hand work
for the Christmas bazaar are to
bring them to each Grange meet
ing. The next meeting of the Ever
green Grauge will be held at the
hall, Thursday, Nov. 8, with Mrs.
Itubie Bell Kobernik, Mrs. Minnie
Kobernik and Mis. Sarah Cyrus
acting as hostesses.
Mrs. Rubie Bloom and Mrs.
Jesse Thomas were appointed
chairmen of the planning commit
tee for the democratic dinner to
be served in the near future.

STUDY CLUB HAS
ENJOYABLE MEETING
Mrs. Earl Strong and Mrs. Har
vey Cockeram graciously enter
tained the members of the Yon
calla Women's Study club at the
Strong home on Rice hill Thurs
day afternoon.
A one o'clock dessert-luncheon
was served and followed by a so
cial hour. Mrs. Smith of Mon
treal, Canada, a sister of Dan
Wright, was the guest present.
Her praise of Oregon scenery, cli
mate and flowers was very grati
fying and made all present more
appreciative of what Oregonians
enjoy.
Mrs. Ed Blomquist, a new mem
ber, was welcomed into the club
bj the president, Mrs. Raphael
Wise. Rollcall was answered with
current events.
The club decided to send a
CARE package to Korea for the
refugees and a collection was
taken up. The package will be
sent in the name of Jim Metz,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Metz,
who is in service in Korea.
A very interesting program was
given on ' "Athletics in School,"
debated by Mrs. E. A. McDonald,
affirmative, and Mrs. Ben Metz,
negative. A group discussion fol
lowed. At the next meeting Mrs.
Harold Turpin and Mrs. Hazel
Latham will discuss the effect of
the new proposed highway 99 on
the country and town. The meet
ing will be held at the Leroy
Hanson home Thursday, Nov. 1.

WILL HAVE INTERESTING
PROGRAM NEXT TUESDAY
The Roseburg Woman's club
will hold i most interesting and
enjoyable meeting next Tuesday
at one-thirty o'clock in the social
rooms of the Methodist church,
according to an announcement by
the joint program chairmen, Mrs.
E. G. Young and Miss Muriel Mitch
el). ,
Mrs. Earl Plummer, president,
will conduct the meeting. The
theme of the program wil be in
ternational relations with Mr. A.
J. Geddes as program chairman.
A panel discussion will be pre
sented by Mrs. It. A. Canaday,
Miss Marie Martens, Mrs. Thomas
Clark and Miss Muriel Mitchell.
The Tiller Troupers will pre
sent a one-act play, "Once Over
Lightly," which will take place
in three scenes. The audience will
meet Mrs. Bridget O'Toole. who
"is always missing the good things
of life" and Mrs. Horace P. Ter
williger with her "mixed meta
phors.' Troupers taking part in
the play will include Mrs. Frank
Price Jr., Mrs. Walter Gosnell,
Mrs. Ira Pclle, Mrs. Milton An
drews and Mrs. Horace Corbett.
Mrs. Sue Hamilton, prominent
Roseburg accordionist, will pre
sent selections accompanied by
her husband.
Tea will be served following the
program by members in group 4.
The meeting will be preceded
by an executive board sssion at
12 o'clock in th kitchen of the
Methodist church. Those attending
are asked to bring a sack lunch.
MYRTLE CREEK REBEKAH
LODGE ACTS AS HOSTESS
The Myrtle Creek Rebekah
lodge was hostess to Roseburg
Rebekah lodge, Glendale Rebakah
lodge, Canyonville Rebekah lodge
and Sutherlin Rebekah lodge, Tues
day evening, Nov. 30, at a delight
ful evening meeting and dessert
supper. A group of seven young
girls received the initiatory de
