Ancient Bottle Of Pop Spells $14,000 Kansas Farm

Willi! will get a $14,000 Kansas
farm if he displays a 60-year-old
bottle of strawberry soda pop on
his 65th birthday next February.
The bottle of pop is the only one
left of 24 given Willis on his fifth
birthday by his grandfather,
James Connor.
The grandfather left a will which
states that Willis shall get the farm
in Montgomery county, Kansas,
on his 65th birthday if he ran pro
duce a bottle of the pop. The will
gave no explanation for the soda
pop clause.
Willis hoarded the pop through
the years, drinking a bottle only
on special occasions. Last Christ
mas he had three bottles left. He
drank one to celebrate the holi
day. A son dropped a second bot
tle and broke it.
Willis, a farmer, expects to pre
sent the remaining bottle in pro
bate court at Independence, Kas.,
Feb. 24 and get title to the farm.
Then he plans to drink the last
bottle.

Ml Ice Cream He Can Eat For 60 Days
Rewards 7-Year-Old Boy For Honesty
ST. LOUIS (AP) Something worse than taking a
bath yes, even worse than returning to school almost hap
pened to aeven-year-old Charles Gibson.
His free ice cream was supposed to be cut off today. But
he won a 30-day reprieve, and the cold, delectable mounds of
vanilla, strawberry and chocolate will be his for the asking
until Oct. 20.
It shows, too. He has gained 4V4
pounds in the month from ST to
61V pounds. Volkmar aaid he put
through the 30-day extension be
cause Charles "has become one of
the biggest boosters of our ice
cream.
Getting tired of Ice cream
"Naw," Charles exclaimed. "I
LIKE it."
Winning any friends? "Oh, sure,
I've got 40 or SO of them now.
Plenty of girl friends, too."
In recognition of the first mile
stone, the company threw a big
ice cream party for Charles and
his chum Thursday night.
Wide Publicity Results
Charles' father, a hardware mer
chant, says published stories of
his son's monumental chocolate
coated success has brought in let
ters from all parts of the country.
All praise the boy for his honesty.
None offer suggestions as to how
much or how little ice cream is
good for a seven-year-old.
Two telephone calls have come
from Austere Englapd, which ap-
apparemiy nnai it nara to Miieve
that a boy anywhere would be
permitted to wallow in dessert
consisting of cream, sugar, fruit
and other concoctions.
The calls were put In by a
woman reporter of a British news
paper (London Evening Standard).
She wanted to know how it felt.
Charles replied in one word
"great."
Charles' favorite? It's still van
illa. Charles Is the boy who found
a bag containing $250 on a bank's
parking lot a month ago. He
turned it over to his father, who
returned it to the owner which
happened to be a St. Louis ice
cream company.
As a reward, the firm gave
Charles a $25 defense bond and a
month's free supply of ice cream
for himself, his friends and fam
ily. Only Charles will get the ice
cream the next 30 days.
The second grader quickly tied
into the stuff. He dropped by the
plant just about every day. He
tried it first one way and then
another dipped up by the spoon
plain, in sundaes and in malts.
Takes On Weight
W. H. Volkmar, manager of
the firm, estimates the boy has
averaged about a quart a day.
