Dillard Couple Completes

After leaving Dillard, they traveled to Los Angeles to
visit Mrs. Cooper's sister. From there they went to El Paso, !
Tex., where they staved a few days. They crossed the bound-.
arv into Mexico and collected souvenirs in Juarez. I
When they arrived In Little
Rock, Ark., they made arrange
ments to travel to Western Grove
to visit Bill Cooper's brother-in-lavi
and sister, Major and Mrs.
Ted Ramsey and Mrs. Cooper's
brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. 0. D. Aydelotte.
Three weeks later they trav
eled to Woodlawn, 111., where they
visited an aunt, Mrs. Minnie
Schmidt, and her children. They
were also honored at a family
reunion.
In St. Charles, Mo., they vis
ited relatives and saw the de
struction of the Kansas City flood.
They saw where water had cut
a channel thirty feet wide through
the most fertile land of one farm.
They toured the St. Louis cityi
zoo, which is thought to be the
largest in the world. When they
returned to Arkansas, they visited
the Bull Shoals dam located on
White river near Harrison.
Visit Salt Mines
Enroute home, they stopped in
Mineola, Tex., to visit Cooper's
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and
Mrs. Myron Walker, who took
them on a tour of the Morton Salt
mines at Grand Salina. They
walked for two miles through tun
nels of solid salt 780 feet under
ground. Near Tyler, Tex., they were
driven through the largest fields
of roses grown anywhere in the
United States. They also toured I
the oil fields near Kilgore.
At Midland, Tex., they saw Mrs
Cooper's sister, Mrs. Helen Groom,
and with her went through the
Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico.

partly through tunnels, 750 feet
underground. The Dome, the larg
est of the stalegmite is estimated
to ne (ju million years old.
When they arrived In San Fran
cisco, they held a reunion with
their two sons,' who are in the

Blood Donors Now
The Red Cross bloodmobile unit
is scheduled to be in Canyonville
Friday, Sept. 28, in response to an
emergency call for blood arising
out of the Korean fighting. The
blood will be flown overseas. The
unit will be stationed at the Meth
odist church from 2 p.m. until 6
P. M.
The Rcbckah lodge and the Lions
club are assisting in making ar
rangements for the first visit of
the bloodmobile unit.
Everyone who is past his 18th
birthday and who has not reached
ins bum may oe doners, those un
der 21 must have a signed re
lease giving parental consent
Minimum weight is 110 pounds
Those who have had malaria pre
vious to the last year are now ac
cepted as blood doners. This blood
is used for plasma and other de
rivatives, and alter the fraction'
ation process, malaria cannot be
transmitted to the patient. Those
having had jaundice may not give
blood. A doner must not have had
major surgery or given birth to a
cniid during the past year.
Food Restrictions Lilted
For a period of four hours prior
to donation the doners may eat
fruit or fruit juices, jam, dry toast
or crackers and may have tea or
coffee with sugar, but without
cream.
A public appeal is being made by
the United States Defense depart
ment for all eligible persons in and
arouna t-anyonvllle and nearby
communities to make a blood do
nation to replenish a stockpile de
picted during the last year. The
need is imperative and if everv-
one whose blood can be used will
make his donations more of our
wounded will live to return home.
Our fighting forces need large
quantities of whole blood and blood
plasma, two major factors in the
saving of lives.
A blood donor pin will be
awarded to all who make blood do
