jor phase of the Japanese treaty
conference in San Francisco will
be heard by KRNR listeners dur
ing the week of Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Although full agenda details for
the conference have not been
completed, several "musts" have
been set for the coverage pat
tern of this historic event. Presi
dent Truman's opening address
heads the schedule. The signing of
the treaty itself, tentatively set
for Saturday, Sept. 8, will be spe
cially broadcast trom ine conier
ence site. In addition we will have
special daily programs from San
Francisco covering conference
highlights and major addresses by
officials and dignitaries there.
Bill Henry heads the group of
network news personalities al
ready assigned to this major story.
He'll be assisted by A 1
Berglund, Mel Venter, and Cliff
Engel. Exact times of the broad
casts from the conference site will
be announced at a later time.

Crop Moving To Market
PR1NEVILLE (JP) Central
Oregon's 1951 lamb crop Is moving
to market, some 1500 having gone
to California at 33 cents a pouna.
Friday 1400, about half ewes and
half wethers, were shipped to Ida
ho's Sun Valley district.
Sheep men report that the ani
mals are in excellent condition

Tax On Theater Passes
For GIs Voted Out
WASHINGTON (IP) Senate
passage has sent to the White
House a bill exempting service
personnel from the 20 percent fed
eral admissions tax when they
have passes to a theater or other
amusement place.
A smiliar measure was In ef
fect during World War Two.
The Senate acted unanimously
by voice vote.

Officers of local 7-307 of the IWA-
CIO reported this week that a
total of $28,471.32 had been paid
to sick and injured members dur
ing the past year from the union's
health and welfare program.
The insurance provided under
the program is carried by an old
line company and is paid for by
payroll contributions made direct
Ic the insurance carrier deslg
natpd by the union.
Local officers also report four
death claims paid, amounting to
$18,000. The plan pays $3,000 in
cases of natural death and double
indemnity for accidental deaths,
From the union's international
offices in Portland, It was reported
that a total of $3,597,261.02 had
been paid during the period July
1, 1950 to July 31, 1951 in acci
dent, sickness, and death claims.
Of this total $2,076,029.00 went for
sickness and accident time loss
benefits.
There were 160 natural deaths
and 109 accidental deaths among
the 50,000 woodworkers covered
by the plan. With 13 dismember
ment cases which were paid $19.-
500 the total for the death and dis
memberment claims amounts t o
$1,153,500.00.
The program was negotiated by
the union in the spring of 1950 and

EUGENE UP) Sam Ruben
stein, 57, owner of the Willamette
Hide and Wool Co., in Eugene,
died suddenly in Portland Sunday.
Active in the Eugene Eagles
lodge for 29 years, he was well
known by Eagles in Oregon and
Washington through his work as
band master for the local lodge.
Surviving are a son, Jack, of
Eugene, a brother, Frank, of Los
Angeles, Calif., and a sister, Mrs.
Pearl Abner, of Mattapan, Mass.
