Five candidates are vieing for
the honor ot being selected queen
of the Yoncalla rodeo which will
be staged July 4. according to the
Drain Enterprise. Contest closes
June 26.
They are Chart Seaton, Carole
Clilton. Jacqueline Clearman and
Caroline Hill, Drain, and Johnnie
Cordon, Yoncalla. The girls are
selling tickets competitively.
The queen's ball is scheduled
the evening of July 4 in the Yon
calla grade school gym. The queen
will he crowned in the arena di
rectly after the' grand entry on
July 4. Amateur contestants for
rodeo events may sign with Char
ley Applegate. A Saddle club dance
is set Saturday mgni at naynurst
hall.
Damages Asked From
Collision Of Trucks
S. C. Palmer and Portia K. Pal
mer of the Industrial Supply com
pany, Roseburg, Monday filed suit
in circuit court against Robert Gil
lette to recover damages to a
pickup truck allegedly resulting
from a collision Jan. 24, 1949, on
the Glendale road.
The complaint says a longing
truck owned by Gillette collided
with a parked pickup owned by
the plaintiffs. Damages of SH.30
and attorney's fees of $75 are
asked.
Pearl Pettey filed suit against
Roy Petty, Monday, asking for
some $1400 alimony and other
funds allegedly unpaid by the de
fendant, after a divorce decree
had been granted by a Clark
county, Washington, court.
Spaniard Starts New
Life At Oakland, Ore.
Fulgencio Inda, 32, of Spain ar
rived in Oakland. Ore., recently
from Bilboa, Spain. He plans to
make America his home. He came
with 260 other young men under
government contract to remain in
the sheep raising business.
Inda was met in Eugene by two
brothers who left Spain for Amer
ica when he was only two years
old. The brothers and their fam
ilies are Mr. and Mrs. Isadora Inda
and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Inda,
Young Inda was much impressed
by American conditions, Ameri
cans seeming like millionaires in
his eyes. Clmat eln Inda'a home

Drain Plans To Increase
City's Water Supply
To meet an emergency in low
water pressure in north and east
Drain, the Drain city council has
decided to take immediate steps
to bring the well in east Drain
into production and to drill an
other well in north Drain near the

The east Drain well will increase
the water supply approximately
30,000 gallons per day. Chlorine
