mounting cost of living has hit the
juke box.
It costs dime now to get the
bow tie to warble one of the new
ones.
Portland, San Diego and Fresno
have gone to the higher price, too
and John Hawley of the National
Association of Music Box Opera
tors says most of the nation's cities
will hike the price within 90 days.
llawley says that records used
to cost about 18 cents each, against
91 cents now. Juke boxes used to
cost $150 to $200, compared with
$1,000 to $1,200. Needles used to
cost seven cents. Now they're 35
cents.
Russian Film Bombed
HONG KONC, (.m - The pre
miere of the Russian film, "May
Revolution." at the New Look
theatre in Swatow, China, was ac
companied by a bomb explosion,
the newspaper Wah Kiu Yat Pa
said Saturday.
It said anti Communists placed
the bomb in a section of the the
ater reserved for censors. The
newspaper said a number of per
sons were killed or wounded.
The word "census" comes from
the Latin "censere" meaning to
value or tax.
