Youths Visit County Jail
And Art Held Prisoners

Two 19-year-old youths went to the
Marion county jail to visit friends.
They stayed on as prisoners.

ger got a good look at the cigarets
and tobacco they brought with
them. Their description jibed with
brands reported stolen from a
nearby tavern.
Yeager took them into his pri
vate office for a talk. He said they
admitted breaking in the tavern
and named a third person, 20-year-old
Clyde Miller, as a participant.
Now all three Harold Martin,
Richard Neese and Miller are
behind bars awaiting grand jury
action.

man rang twice but Mrs. Vinite
Nicholls got more than the mail
when she stepped onto her front
porch.
Heading toward her were a
two-ton truck and an automobile.
The truck, loaded with carpets,
crashed into her living room. The
automobile selected a bedroom and
came to rest there.
Mrs. Nichols and the truck dri
ver, Chester Taylor, escaped with
bruises. The driver of the auto,
Mrs. Catherine Griffin, wasn't
even scratched.
P. S.: The postman hotfooted It
up the block. Just remembered a
special delivery he had to make.
Divers Inspect Affray
For Salvage Purposes

ers are preparing to make their
second descent to the sunken sub
marine Affray. They will try to
decide if it is practical to salvage
the craft.
The Affray was found 2S0 feet
below the surface of the English
channel ST miles west of the Isle
of Wight. Divers said she was rest
ing at the edge of a 500-foot depth
and salvage operations might
push her in.
The submarine disappeared
April 16. while on a training cruise,
with the loss of 75 men.
One suggested method of rais
ing the sub, if she is found un
damaged, would be to blow her
full of compressed air to restore
the buoyancy needed to surface
the cratt.

MAIDEN, Mass. (IP) The
police got to the catrhbasin before
the street department men so
Jack Felton is out $10.
Felton dropped a SI0 roll of quar
ters down the catchbasin.
An attractive woman came along
and asked: "Lost something?"
"Yes," Felton replied and told
her of his loss.
He then headed for the street
department to get men to ra
ti leve the money.
At the same time, the police said,
the woman went to them and re
ported the loss as hers. Police
obligingly scooped the rool o( quar
ters out for her.
She disappeared before Felton's
return.
