(JP Mai-, heur county has defied Oregon law, its residents announcing they would refuse to change to daylight saving time with the rest of the state Sunday. I The chamber of commerce secre tary, II. Oregon passed a law last year to require the entire state to go on daylight time when the governor proclaims it. He has set April 29 for the change-over. The Malheur refusal is based on the fact that a change to daylight time would make the county a small island of time, its clocks at variance with all others in the Pa cific Northwest. The county is the only one in Oregon on mountain standard time. When it is 6 p.m. Pacific standard time in Portland, it is 7 p.m., mountain standard time here and in Boise. A change to daylight time would make it 7 p.m. in Portland, 8 p.m. in Ontario, and 7 p.m. in Boise, which will re main on mountain standard time. So Malueur county intends to re main on mountain standard time so that when it is 7 p.m. (PDT) in Portland, it will be 7 p.m. (MST) here and in Boise.
