A good children's radio program
Is a good adult program. This- is
accepted in principle by most ra
dio leaders. But obviously, as (
turn of the radio dial indicates,
children's programs are in need of
improvement. On the overall pic
ture radio's crime has been a
crime of omission not com m i s
sion for network radio gener
ally is not broadcasting the best
that the medium can both afford
and express. So it remains for ra
dio stations broadcasting on a lo
cal level to offer attractive and
compelling children's shows. A
glance at the weekly KRNR pro
gram log shows the station mak
ing sound strides in the advance
ment of what we call "good" ra
dio. Radio has a responsibility to
children of all ages in all areas,
and aince the children listen ap
proximately six hours a week, sta
tions work hard to create and of
fer the best possible to this im-
port ant audience segment.

to prove its right to that position. Fact: Of all the Packards
built, in the last 52 years, over 50 are still in service!
All of which goes to show that the 1951 Packard is
not only the newest of all the new cars but that it's
designed and built to stay that way for many a prideful
year ahead!
Won't you stop in, please, and see for yourself how
it feels to drive the newest new car in the world?
There's no better time than right now!
Dial
dren's program is entertainment,
adventure, humor, imagination,
good living, appreciation and
proper English usage.
Some of the programs designed
especially for children, but enter
taining fur all age groups: Uncle
Bob and his doltish delinquent,
Torrence the talking terrapin
each night Monday through Fri
day at 7. Esther Geddes' "Magic
Garden" at S Monday evenings.
Saturday morning comes "Fun
With Words" at 10.30 school chil
dren compete in a word game
written by l.orraine Ixins. Monday
through Friday at 3:30, the School
Show goes on the air, from the
schools, with the students taking
over. Incidentally a show of the
latter two types shows radio has a
definite value in school work. It
teachea the children to like Eng
lish and teaches them the potenti
ality of radio as a method of com
munications. Such are examples of
local production.
From the network the younger
set's line up of adventure tales
starts at five right across he
board. Mark Trail finds adventure
in the conservation theme,
Straight Arrow and Sky King blaie
trails of excitement across the air
ways, and Bobby Benson sins a
few songs with the B-B.ir-B riders.
Two other shows worth mention:
Standard School broadcast, Tues
day at 1:30 in conjunction with the
school's music classes, and Don
I.ee'a Symphonies for Youth a
full hour en Saturday morning
starting at eleven.
