VICTOR BORGE, the Danish-
born Pixie of the Paricrewskis who
started his own "Victor Borge
Show" series on Mutual-Don Lee
(Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays,
5:55-6:00 p.m.), almost became a
gas station attendant in Hollywood
ten years ago. He had gone to the
film capitol seeking his big break.
Although he had been a high-salaried
film star In his native Den

in Hollywood. To tide him over.
he temporarily accepted a job at
a tilling station.
The nhht before he was to re
port for work he went to a party
attended by Rudy Vallee. The
crooner thought Victor was a great
comedian and asked him what he
was doing. "I'm working at a gds
station," advised Borge. "No,
you're not," replied Vallee who
introduced him to some friends
in radio. And as a result Borge's
first radio assignments, back there
in 1940. were doine comedv stints
drring pre-broadcast studio warm-
ups.
Borge says he has "A funny
bone that won't let me alone." He
adds: "In fact, if I couldn't ad-lib
continuously, off and on the staee,
I would probnhly be just a concert
pianist and let it go at that."
