The bride, given in marriage By
her father, was beautiful in a
white satin gown, fasnioned en
train, with long pointed sleeves

finger-tip veil was held in place
by a tiara of white seed pearls.

Miss Charlotte Joan Boyle,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
M. Spain, became the bride of
Wallace Merlin Nelson, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Emil E. Nelson of Con
cord, Calif., in a double-ring cere
mony Tuesday evening, Dec. 26
at the Open Bible Standard Church
of Port Chicago. The ceremony was
read by The Rev. Andrew Slack.
Miss Boyle is a former Roseburg
resident.
Before the ceremony, Mrs. Nor
man C. Wright of Oakdale, Calif,
sang "I Love Vjiu Truly," and
Mrs. - Andrew Slack sang "Al
ways," accompanied by Mrs. Vin
cil Saling.
Given in marriage by her step
father, the bride wore a gown of
white lace with a square neck and
long sleeves. She wore a single
strand of pearls. Her full length
veil was edged with delicate lace
in three tiers. She carried a heart
shaped bouquet of while rose buds
edged with red roses. She also car
ried a blue handkerchief and wore
a penny in her shoe for tradition.
Mrs. Norman C. Wright, twin
sister of the bride, as matron of
honor wore orchid net over taffeta
with cap sleeves and peter pan col
lar. She carried a heart-shaped
bouquet of white carnations edged
with yellow carnations,
Mrs. Benjamin Hopper, the
bridesmaid, was gowned similarly
in yellow net over taffeta. She car
ried a heart-shaped bouquet of
white carnations edged with lav
endar carnations.
Miss Shirley Henry of Eugene,
and Miss Beverly Smith of Port
Chicago, each gowned in pink,
lighted the randies.
Dale Nelson of Clyde, Calif, and
Don Nelson, both brothers of the
bridegroom were best man and
usher, respectively. The flower
girl, Sandy Nucomb, was gowned
in pink taffeta with a net over
skirt. The ring bearer, Fred
Wright, nephew of the bride, wore
navy blue trousers and white coat.
While the couple was kneeling,
Mr. A. E. Gross sang "The Lord's
Prayer."
Miss Shirley Henry, niece of the
bride, caught the wedding bouquet.
A reception followed at the Com
munity Church Annex.
When the couple left on their
wedding trip, the bride wore a
navy blue suit trimmed in red with
navy accessories.

Eugene where Mr. Nelson will con
tinue studying" at Bible Standard
Institute.
BELLVIEW CLUB HAS
INTERESTING MEETING
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
Bellview club met Wednesday
afternoon at the home of Thella
Webber with Cora Collison acting
as president pro tem. Evelyn New
ell read the collect and Ruth
Parker presented the secretary's
report.
It was decided to start a travel
ing basket among the membership
to raise money for the club. The
group voted to semi a gift every
month to the exchange student,
who is a patient at the state
hospial in Salem and it was also
voted to contribute to the scholar
ship loan fund.
Roll call was answered by mem
bers giving New Year's resolutions.
A white elephant grab bag was
enjoyed.
Mrs. E. L. Tauscher. president
of District No. 2, OWFC. gave
a talk on the projects for the fed
erated club during the coming
year. Mary Southwick closed the
program by giving I he club
motto.
Those present were Mrs. E. L.

AT IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY
The Salvation Army Citadel in
Portland was the scene New
Year's Eve of the wedding of
Nancy R. Rabuck and Arthur W.
Hawk. Miss Rabuck is the daugh
ter of C. L. Noble and Mrs. Jessie
Taylor of Roseburg and the onde
groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
John Hawk of Tckoa, Wash.
The wedding was tolomnUed at
the end of a week's council meet
ing of the Order of Isaiah, held
st the Citadel in Portland, so that
friends of the young couple attend
ing the council could be present
for the event. Eight member) of
the Order of Isaiah, in full Saiva
t on Army uniform, formed a
guard of honor for the bridal
couple. Lois Simson of Astoria was
maid of honor and Richard Oli-rg
of Roseburg was best man. M'ss
Taburk came to the altar on the
arm of her father.
The lovely young bride wore full
Salvation Army uniform with a
white corde sash. She carried her
Bible, opened to the 19lh Psalm
and marked with sweet peas 'led
in ribbon streamers. Vows were
exchanged in the presence of many
fr'ends who had come from Ore
gon and southern Idaho to be pres
ent at the council meeting.
Following the wedding, a recep
tion was held for 150 guests at the
Citadel. Mrs. Captain Kenneth An
derson was the hostess.
The young couple is now at
home in Coos Bay where the brine
groom is a member of the U S.
( oast Guard. Both the bride and
bridegroom are members of the
Salvation Army and the Order of
Isaiah,
MUDiUDDLERS CLUB IS
RECENTLY ORGANIZED;

The first meeting of the Mud
puddlers club, newly organized
group of graduate ceramic stu
dents, was held Jan. S at the home
of the president, Miss Clover Kerr.
A politick luncheon was e n
joyed, after which a linen shower
was given in honor of Mrs. Ver
non Bristow, whose home on the
Rifle. Range road, was destroyed
by fire. Later, a white elephant
auction was enjoyed with Mrs.
Anna T. Kerr as" auctioneer. Pro
ceeds of the sale were given to
Mrs. Bristow.
The club is affiliated with the
national ceramics organization of
Mud Hens, Members have just
completed a 10 weeks course under
the direction of Mrs, Gladys Work
man of Scottsburg, who held her
classes in the home of Mrs. Clar
ence Osbun in Roseburg.
The club was organized at the
graduation Christmas party Dec.
22 at the home of Mrs. H. J. Schlue
ter, when the name of the club
was chosen and officers selected.
Besides Miss Kerr other officers
include Mrs. William Evans, vice
president, and Mrs, Jack E. Allo
way, secrelary treasurer.
Present at the first meeting were

Victory Circle of the First Bap
tist church met at the home of
Betty Baker Thursday with Mary
belle Walker, co-hostess. Lora Kes
ter opened the meeting. Nellie
Simmons presented the devotions
and Otie Harris gave the invoca
tion. Mrs. Raymond Schacfcr, a guest,
who at one time with her husband
was a missionary in China, gave a
very interesting talk. While cross
work for the year was discussed
and plans were made to carry out
part of the work at the next neet
ing. A social hour followed and lovely
refreshments were served by the
two hostesses lo Mrs. Schaefer and
Mrs. C. J. Balsam of Seal Rock
(sister of Martha Merchant), Mrs.

conducted the regular meeting of
the Women of the Moose Monday
evening. Reports were given by
Vernon Hatcher, Rosemary Oliver,
Hazel Jamieson, Ethel Bouse and
Faye Jones,
It was announced that the local
lodge has been honored by a re
quest to do the formal Initiation
work at the mid-winter conferenre
to be held in Corvallis Jan. 2.
Mrs. Fandrich will conduct the
conference meeting.
