Conditions at LookingKlasa are greatly changed. Early day pupils went to school in a log cabin on the Ollivant place. The school moved to the church, then to the Grange hall. Finally the two-story building shown in the accompany ing picture, was erected. Annie Kent wa the first teacher. She handled nearly 100 pupils. In the early days school was held for two or three months, or as long as funds held out. Later a system was used in which the students attended school three months in the fall and three months in the sprine. Discipline was harsh. Almost any form of corrective measure was practiced. Students ware oden whipped with straps, rubber 1 strips or rulers. Old timers re call the teachers wore out a hazel switch each day. Between the school and the store was a "sparking bench," from which the teachers had lo call the students for class. RADIO SIRVICINO Hansen's Radio Service. Sutherlln. Radio Doctors. At the rear of the Strickland house stands an old fort, used or iginally as refuge in case of an Indian attack, and later aa a saddle shop.
