riving now in Germany. 'X
"They are reach): Germany as
a flow of replacements, not in new
units as yet," the commander of
the U.S. army in Kurope told a
news conference here.
He said the Berlin garrison prob
ably would be the first to he in
creased in strength by additional
troops.
Asked if the American command
has a plan for evacuating U.S.
soldiers from Berlin in case of
attack, Eddy voiced a smiling de
nial. "There is no evacuation plan at
all." he said. "The American sol
dier will stay here and fight it out
in spite of any odds."
Eddy said the lessons of early
American reverses in Korea .were
being applied to improve defense
pleasures in Germany. One lesson.
ne added, was that Soviet-made
T-34 tanks were superior to Ameri
can Shermans.
He indicated the heavy Pershing

fat lambs sold for an average
36.62 cents. All were above current
market prices, but below the rec
ord highs of 1946.

Voice of America from the Rus
sian people, a State department of
ficial said here Wednesday.
Koy D. Kohler. chief of the Slate
department's international broad
casting division, estimated that
more than 30 percent of Russian
radio listeners regularly tune in
on the Voice.
Kohler said (he Voice operates
24 hours a day, beaming 70 prog
rams in 25 languages to the Rus
sian people. By !!!.' I, he added, the
Voice will have "ringed the Soviet
union with radio bases." making

sible. Continued denouncement of the
Voice of America by the Russian
press and radio is sufficient proof
