Granted Rent Increase
SEATTLE (.V) A 15 per
cent increase for Seattle area rent
ers has been approved effective
next Monday, Joseph A. Martineau,
chairman of the King county rent
advisory board, said.
Landlords who have not been
granted a rent increase aince June
30. 1847, will be eligible for an
adjustment under the plan. Also
eligible, according to Richard C.
Atwood, area rent director for the
county, will be landlords who have
had rent increases since June 30,
1947, for increased operating ex
penses and other approved causea.

Weather Speeds
Oregon Harvest
PORTLAND MP) The Ore
gon harvest was speeded by gen
erally dry, cool weather, the de
partment of Agriculture and the
weather bureau reported.
Fall seeding has been delayed
by dry top soil, the weekly re
port said, but fall plowing and
seed bed preparationa are on
schedule.
Harvest of small grain and sum
mer truck crops is nearly com
pleted and harvest of fall vege
table crops is underway. Late hope
are nearly all in, too, except for a
few to be hand-picked.
With the Bartlett pear harvest
about finished in Hood River
county, picking of winter peara hat
started. The Rogue river area ex
pects to finish picking Anjou pearl
and start on Bosca this week.
The filbert harvest, the report
said, will start about Oct. 1 and
the walnut harvest 10 dayi later.
Potato digging has been alow In
central areas but crop prospects
there and in the Klamath area con
tinue good. .
