Pacific announced plana Thursday
for purchase of 5000 new freight
cars and 48 diesel locomotives,
and also declared a $1.25 share
quarterly dividend.
President A. T. Mercier made
the announcements at the close of
a meeting of the road's board of
directors here.
He said delivery of the new
equipment likely will be started
within the first half of 1951. The
purchases will bring to 28,630 the
number o' new freight cars pur
chased since the end of World War
II. and increase the number of
diesel locomotives acquired in
this period to 350.
The dividend will be paid Sent.

With these new purchases.
Southern Pacific's outlay for new
rolling equipment since the war
has reached $307,000,000, Mercier
said.
