Mr. and Mrs. John Norman Longe and daughters, Juliette and Anna Christine, and the childrens' nurse, Margaret Schere, of Venezuela, S. America, spent a week at the lodge at the opening of the season. The Longes are touring the Pacific northwest and Canada. They will sail for England Sept. 1, to make their permanent home, following the last few years in Vint zuela. where Mr. Longe was as. sociated in the interest of the Shell Oil company. Dr. Edward B. Towne and son, Ned, of San Francisco, ;pent a few days at the lodge early in , July. Dr. and Mrs. Towne plan to return early in August for a longer vacation. The Towncs have spent their vacation on the North Ump qua for the last 10 years. They will be joined by several friends who have been coming here every year to make up a party of San Francisco fishing enthusiasts. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Fletcher of Carmel, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Work of Monterey, Cal if., arrived July 9th for two weeks. The Fletchers extended their stay until August 1st and will return again for later fishing the last of September. Capt. and Mrs. L. m. KirDy, also of camel, and Pebble Beach, Calif., are spending the entire month at the lodge. The Kirby's made their first visit to Stamboat in May and spent two weeks at the lodge at that time and enjoyed the early trout fishing. They were so impressed by the oeauty ot tne stream ana the fish ing to be enjoyed, that they de cided to return for a longer stay, They now plan to return in Sept ember for another visit. Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Eliot Jr. and daughter Sally, of Pasadena, Calif, arrived July 1st to spend their vacation at the lodge. The Eliols have been vacationing on the North Umpqua for a number of years. Mr. Eliot is field repre sentative for Remington Arms Co. and left for San Francisco to par ticipate in the California slate skcet shoot. A birthday party was given for Miss Sally on July 7th to celebrate her sixteenth birth day. Mr. and Mrs. John Chapin of San Mateo, Calif., have been spend ing the last 10 days at the lodge. They had visited Jenny Lake ranch in Wyoming and Sun Valley lodge in Idaho before coming to the North Umpqua. Mr. Chapin suc ceeded in taking his first steel head during their stay and is now a very enthusiastic' stcelhead fish erman for the future. The Cha pins were at the lodge for their first visit last year and have made reservations for a three weeks stay in July 1951. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley E. Short and son of Roseburg spent their first weekend at tne lodge over the Fourth of July holiday. Col. Hervey B. Pcrrin of Pasa dena and also of Die New York club, arrived July 8th tn spend the summer. He spent all of last sea son at the lodge and enjoyed some excellent fishing. He left here for Seat tle to teach chemistry during the summer session at Washington un iversity. Mr. and Mrs. Decuis plan to join Dr. .Towne and his party at the lodge in August. F. D. Van Schlegcll of Pasa dena arrived Sunday for a few days fishing, after making a business irip through the Pacific northwest. He is distributor for the Ferguson tractor plants and implements in the western states and Mexico. He flew his own plane intj Roseburg and motored to the lodge from the local airport. He hopes to return with his wife later in the season. The Von Schlegells spent a couple of weeks at the lodge several years ago and are enthusiastic over the fishing possibilities at Steamboat. Edcar Ward of Hollywood arriv ed last week to spend a couple of weeks at the lodge. Mrs. Ward (nee jane wyatt) will join him if her parents picture is completed soon. Mr. Ward spent two weeks here last year. A birthday party and outside picnic supper was given in honor of Harry Kelior, of Orick, Calif., (popular chef at the lodge) on July 12th. the guests had planned a very nice party, and the evening was most cnjoyaDie. The bride, given in marriage hy her father, wore a gown of white I nylon net fashioned with shirt waist top, with full circular skirt, ballerina length, trimmed with tiered rows of laffeta binding. Following the reception the new lyweds left for a ten-day trip into eastern Oregon. The bride chose for her going away costume a pink gabardine suit with while accessories.
