trip lo Yellowstone park by way

gon. They visited their son, Allen,

home over the week-end and 4th

gene Saturday, with her daughter,

It is seldom anyone actually uei
$92,800 in cash.
B u t Wednesday lawyers and
claimants in court proceedings to
recover tne treasure trove found
in a south Philadelphia cellar
went to the Tradesmen'a National
bank and Trust Co.. under orders
of Judge Eugene V. Alessandroni
to inspect the $92,800.
The money was taken from the
bank's vaults in another effort to
determine ownership of the treas
ures.
The money was found by Ben
jamin Lieberman, former book
keeper for a defunct dairy. Since
his discovery it has been claimed
by several interested parties, i n
cluding the creditors of the bank
rupt dairy.
Lieberman, himself, claimed it
on a finders-keeprs basis. The
commonwealth of Pennsylvania
wants it under the rules of e a
cheat. And finally, Mrs. Theresa
Hillop, widow of Anthony J, Hillop,
claims her husband secreted the
money in Lieberman's home before
Hillop was shot to death near
Hammonton, J. J., in 1932.
Judge Alessandroni last spring
ordered the funds escheated to
Pennsylvania. His action, however,
was appealed by Raymond J. Bro-
derick, counsel for the dairy's cre
ditors, ihe state supreme court
ordered Alessandroni to conduct
additional hearings.
Wednesday viewing was nart of
the new series of hearings.
Broderick had promised a for
mer driver of the dairy would be
present to identify markings on
some oi the bills to support the
creditors contention that the money
represents stolen assets of the
dairy.
The driver failed to appear.
The money went back into the
vaults.
Under the "rules of escheat"
an old English feudal law t h
state of Pennsylvania claims the
money because there is no person
legally entitled to it.
Lieberman, who found the cash,
waived claim to it, b a c k the
state's claim and hopes to obtain
a reward from the atate approx
imately 2 percent for finding the
money.
Mrs. Hillop, whose husband was
a gambler, claims her husband
once lived ln Lieberman's home
before the bookkeeper moved
there. Hillop was shot under mys
terious circumstances. Police theo
rized he was taken for a "ride,"
a victim of a rival gang. The
case was never solved.
