PINK AND BLUE SHOWER
IS CHARMING AFFAIR
HONORING MRS. BRIGHAM
Mrs. Alva Manning and M r s.
Dwight Beck of Sutherlin were joint
hostesses at a pink and blue
shower for Mrs. Robert Brigham
at the Manning home Tuesday.
The gift table was centered with
a large stork and the serving table
was decorated with flowers flank
ed by tall tapers.
Mrs. Joyce West assisted with
the gifts. Mrs. Robert Weaver as
sisted with the serving and Mav
Weber had charge of the guest
book.
A couple of games appropriate
for the occasion were enjoyed with
Mrs. Jean Tremen, winning the
prize for the first game and Mrs.
Maude Church, first and Mrs. Kath
ryn Moore, second for the last
game.
Refreshments were served with
Mrs. Ralph Sheffel and Mr. Lewis
Sheffel, pouring.

AT KNIGGE HOME
The Woman's Christian Temper
ance Vnion met Wednesday at the
home of Mrs. R. D. Knigge with
Mrs. Edith Ackerl giving the in
vocation, followed hy the devotions
by Mrs. Ada Davis.
Mrs. Ackert presented the pro
gram and gave a "day-by-d.iy"
description of the president Mrs.
D. Leigh Calvin's trip to England
and the WCTU world convention
being held there at Hastings. Mrs.
Calvin has been elected new first
vice-president of the world organ
ization. Other new world officers
include: Mrs. John Forrester-Pat-ton,
of Scotland, president: Mrs.
Cecil Heith, England, secretary:
Mrs. Margaret C. Muns. VSA trea
surer, and Mrs. C. W. Hilork. re
cording secretary. Representatives
from all over the world attended
the convention.
The next meeting will be a pic
nic at 1 o'clock July 20 at I'mp
qua park. Mrs. Albert Fay will
have charge of the program.
At the tea hour Mrs. Knigge and
Mrs. John Pinkerton, co-hostess,
served lovely refreshments.
Two very charming affairs of

Wednesday and Friday afternoon
at the home of the former on South
Kane street. Attractive bouquets
of pastel-colored summer flowers

RECEPTION AND DINNER
HONORS APPLEYARDS
The farewell reception and pot
luck dinner held in honor of Rev.
and Mrs. Walter W. Appleyard
and Mrs. Appleyard's mother, Mrs.
Myrtle Burtch Tuesday evening
took on such large proportions that
the tables and benches were ar
ranged out in the yard in front of
the Dillard church to accommodate
their many friends.
Three hundred friends gathered
at 6:30 to celebrate the occasion.
A pleasant surprise was created
when Marvin Covey, former choir
leader, arrived from Ashland
where he is attending summer
school. He led the out-of-door sing
ing. An appropriate poem was
composed and read by Al Fritz
from Rice Creek, expressing his
great esteem for the departing
friends. A love-offering was pre
sented to the honored guests for
a gift from the people.
Rev. Mr. Appleyard has been
pastor of the Dillard Methodist
church for the past four years
and he was loved and admired
by the people of the community
at large. He has accepted a new
church at Nehalem, Oregon. They
left Dillard Wednesday morning.

THE ENCACEMENT of Miss Patricia Anne Sheehy, daughter of
Mrs. C. P. Sheehy of Roseburg, has been announced by the latter
to Wallace Danford Biclcmore, son of Mr. end Mrs, Earl Golds
berry Bickmore of La Grande, Ore. Mils Sheehy was graduated
from University of Oregon in June. Mr. Bickmore was graduated
in March from University of Oregon. The wedding is planned for

New additions to the just-wed
set are Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Rapp,
who were united in marriage at a
single ring ceremony performed
by Judge Wright in Reno o n Tues
day, June 13. The bride was for
merly Frances C. Eckland of In
glewood, California.
Attired in a gray suit with
black accessories, the bride chose
a corsage of sweet peas and rose
buds for her flowers.
The newlyweds have returned
from a honeymoon spent in Sac
ramento and are at home to their
Dunsmuir friends at 114 Kather
ine avenue.
Rapp is a conductor for the
Southern Pacific company.
The bridegroom is a son of Mrs.
Jessie Rapp Vinson and a brother
of Harry G. Rapp of Roseburg.

The Patch and Chat club was
entertained Tuesday night by

peas formed the decorations. Sew

the hostess serving lovely refresh

and snapdragons formed the back
ground for the wedding of Miss
Patricia Ann Rome ana Hicnara
Dale Weekly Sunday, June 18 at
two o'clock at the home of the
bride's parents. Relatives and
close friends attended. The single
ring ceremony was performed by
Floyd Hughes of the Myrtle creeie
Church of Christ.
The bride is the daughter ot Mr.
and Mrs. Kenneth V. Ronk, Myrtle
Creek, and the bridegroom is the
son o Mr. and Mrs. Dale Weekly,
also of Myrtle Creek.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride was lovely in an after
noon length gown of aqua mar
quisette over taffeta, fche carnea
a white Bible topped with an or
chid. Her headpiece was of steph
anotis. Miss Gwendolyn Pitts- of Myrtle
Creek was maid of honor and wore
an afternoon length dress of pink
flowered organdy over taffeta.
Her corsage w a s of gardenias.
Donald Wrenn of Myrtle Creek
was best man.
The bride's mother wore a navy
blue faconne afternoon dress. The
bridegroom's mother wore a blue
suit. Both wore white carnation
corsages.
The wedding music was played
by Miss Maxine Kusler, who also
accompanied her sister. Miss Paul
ine Kusler, who sang "I Love You
Truly," and "Because." Both
young ladies were schoolmates of
the bride and hridegroom.
A reception followed. The bride's
table was covered with a white
linen cloth belonging to her mat

cake was topped by a miniature
bridal couple, which had been
used on the wedding cake of the
bride's parents twenty-one years
ago.
Mrs. Keath Ronk, aunt of the
bride, assisted with the reception
arrangements and Mrs. Oren Led
gerwood, aunt of the bridegroom,
cut and served the wedding cake,
after the bridal couple had cut
the first piece.
Miss Velma Marcum of Salem
presided at the punch bowl and
Miss Patricia McKinney was in
charge of the guest book. Mrs.
Oliver Shull, cousin of the bride,
had charge of the gifts. " ,
For traveling the bride selected
a navy blue dress with white
accessories and top coat. Follow
ing a wedding trip to coastal points
the couple will reside in their new
home on the Weekly ranch o n

Both the bride and. bridegroom
were graduated from Myrtle Creek
high school in 1949. The latter is
