Sutherlin Team
Defeats Roseburg
junior Legion
Sutherlin's undefeated Junior
American Legion baseball squad
racked up a lopsided 12-5 win over
the Roseburg team on Finlay field
Friday night in a ragged contest
which saw a total of 17 errors
m'rked up against the two teams.
Although wally Beamer, Suther
lin's fireball artist, struck out 18
local batsmen while allowing only
four hits, Roseburg lost the game
on the 13 errors committed, most
of them coming in the final two
innings. Of the 27 putouts record
ed against Sutherlin- pitcher Mick
ey Coen accounted for 13 by the
strikeout nearly half.
Beamer completely baffled most
of the Roseburg batsmen. Only
outfielder Ccne Henry was able
to collect more thn one hit against
the Sutherlin ace a single and
an eight inning homer which tied
the count at -5 and briefly re
vived Roseburg hopes late in the
game. Sutherlin second baseman
Kenny Wahl led both teams in
hitting with a three four 'four re
cord, all singles. Steve Danchok.
outfielder, smacked a single and a
triple in five tries; Fennell, out
fielder, rapped a double in four
trips to the plate, and Beamer adn
Darrell Robcrson accounted for th
other two blows given up by Coen.
Had it not been for the fatal
last two innings, Roseburg may
have won their second game with
the Sutherlin nine: The visitors
scored seven runs on three hits
and nine errors as Roseburg de
fenses crumbled.

Makeup Contest
For Chiefs Eyed
It has been suggested that t
makeup game between the Ump
sua Chiefs and Central Point be
played at night on the Fairgrounds
field at Medford at any time satis
factory to Roseburg, according to
I. R. Frideger, president of the
Southern Oregon baseball league.
The makeup tilt was suggested
after a review of the protest en
tered by the Chiefs following can
cellation of the regularly schedul
ed game. The Chiefs protested
when Central Point reported its
field in too bad sh'pe to play. The
Roseburg club suggested the game
be played on Finlay field, but the
S0L president pointed out that rhe
Central Point players had been
told of the agreement to cancel
the game at noon the day before
the game. Roseubrg did not call
back the offer to play in Roseburg
until about 4 p.m.
