Calif., slopped in Roseburg two
days this week to visit with the
Charles Hiney family enroute to
Portland to join her son, Bill, and
his wife, also residents of Van
Nuys, who are vacationing. Bill is
employed by Fox studios and is a
popular San Fernando square dance
caller. Mrs. Hiney""was at one time
a popular singer in Roseburg and
is a former student of Mrs. Charles
A. Brand. She was soloist at the
First Church of Christ, cientist,
for eight years. The youngest son,
Cantain John Hiney. is still with
the U.S. air force with weather
operations.

Funeral services for Russell C.
Autry, 45, who was fatally injured
June 20 in a logginB truck acci
dent near Olalla, will be held in
The Chapel of The Roses, Roseburg
Funeral home, Friday, June 23,
at 2 p. m., with Rev. W. W. Apple
yard officiating.
Surviving are his widow, uovie
of Dillard; a daughter, Mrs. James
(Barbara) McAlpine, Roseburg; a
son, Russell C. Jr., U. S. navy, San
Diego; his parents, Mr, and Mrs.
Fred Autry. El Monte, Calif.;
three brothers, llcarl, George and
Jaytce Autry, all of El Monte; a
sister, Mrs. Elbert Strong, El
Monte, and a granddaughter.
The body will be shipped to El
Monte for interment.

Budget Amounts Approved
Voters of school district 1.10C,
comprising Sutherlin, Fair Oaks,
Nonpariel, Fir Grove and Deady,
voted approval of the proposed
budget in excess of the six per
cent liimlation, 88 to IS, at an
election Monday.
Mrs. Helen Briscoe of Suther
lin was re-elected director for a
five-year term. Mrs. Florence
Groshong was the other candidate
for director.
Voting was very light at the city
election held Saturday at the city
hall on a proposed special tax levy
of $32,487.45, in excess of the six
percent limitation.
The budget was approved by
the voters 40 to 25.
About four cents out of the
average U. S. consumer's dollar
goes for medical care.

Oregonians purchased $487,136
worth of E bonds during the week
ending June 17, according to fig
ures received irom tne f ederal
Reserve bank by E. C. Sammons,
state chairman of the Savings
Bonds division, this represents a
total of 46 percent of the state's
quota of $5,892,000 for the Inde
pendence drive.
While the volume represented a
drop from the sales of the previous
week, increases in some of the
hitherto lagging counties indicated
a continuing surge of buying.
Gillam county continues to lead
the state with 128 percent of its
assigned quota. The largest single
increase during the last week waa
made by Sherman county in sell
ing 58 percent of its quota. Other "
counties showing gains of 20 per
cent or more were Morrow 39 per
cent and Jackson 21 percent.
