Nelson, 32-year-old Canby resident
who has been almost completely
paralyzed since a tragic swimming
day when he was 14, was grad
uated from high school Thursday
night.
Nelson, who has earned his own
living despite the (act that his body
paralyzed from the neck down and
his hands have only limited use,
earned straight "1" grades (high
est possible) in his courses.
His schooling was interrupted
when, as a 6-toot 14-year-old. he
dived into the Pudding river and
hit his head on the botton. The in
jury paralyzed him.
Recently, after years of work at
fathering newspaper items hy
phone, selling cards, and taking
magazine subscriptions, he decided
to resume his high school course.
Now he will make his first trip
since the accident: a rail journey
to San Francisco, gift of Southern
Pacific trainmen and Eugene high

have become interested because
