Former Communist I.ouii Budenz
says in his new book that a wo
man Communist succeeded in "en
tering the White House and bring
ing back information valuable to
Stalin for the Yalta conference."
Budeni identifies her is "a pro
fessor in a Pennsylvania college"
who "served as a courier and
information gatherer in Washing
ton" for the Communists.
"She wai instrumental," Budeni
writes, "in getting various govern
mental moves made which enhan
ced the political position of the
Communists."
No further Information about the
woman is given in the book, "Men
Without Faces' (Harper).
The author, former managing
editor of the Daily Worker who
broke with the Communist partv
in 1945 and returned to the Roman
Catholic faith, wrote:
"For weeks prior to the Yalta
conference, Communist agents in
Washington had been told to ga
ther every reliable bit of data
available on President Roosevelt's
hopes, plana and fears in the war.
"All this information x x x was
forwarded to Moscow. Since Sta
lin could check this information
against that coming in from other

Budeni, who has appeared fre
quently in Communist trials and
investigations, said he was willing
to support his accusations with
names, dates and places "before
any governmental agency in exec
utive session."

Father, Daughter Drown
On Lake Fishing Trip
ST. MARIES, Idaho, May 25
(P) The bodies of a man and his
daughter who drowned in Benewah
lake were found Wednesday near
their sunken boat.
E. W Smith, Benewah county
sheriff, identified the victims as
Mrs. L. A. Williams of St. Maries
and her father Harrv Griffith.
Smith said they had gone to the
lane seven miles northwest of St.
Maries on a fishing trip. The acci
dent was not discovered until thev
failed to return to their home last
night.
The sheriff said there was no
indication of the accident's cause.
