Cash Stolen From
Body Of Hunter,
Widow Declares

The widow ot so eik hunter killed

her husband. '
The statement was made by Mrs.
Olga Nolan o( Spokane. Her hus
band, William B. Nolan, apd Wil
liam E. Hamilton, also of Spokane,
were killed by a single oullet fired
by another hunter at an elk. ' 1
Thomas G. Jordan, Asotin coun
ty prosecutor at the time, con
firmed that Nolan's billfold and
ide ufication papers were missing
when the body was examined. Jor
dan is now superior court judge in
the county.
"My husband had 1400 or more
Li cash the afternoon before the ac
cident," Mrs. Nolsn said. "1 was
wilh him and know 'la had spent
less than iS before he went on the
hunt."
Jordan said he was with the
sheriff and undertaker when the
body was exsmined. "When Mr,
Merchsnt (the indertaker) ex
amined Mr. Nolan's body, the first
thing he remsrked was that there
was no hunting license, elk tag
or Identification." -
Jordan said the investigation had
established the "ocstion of two
hunting parties in the area and
Uiat someone other than a member
of those parties had taken the miss
ing articles.
James Jones of Spokane, a mem
ber of one party, has been charged
with manslaughter in the deaths
and is now on trial.

Standley Robinelte has been given
a position as assistant high school

Johnny Rorkwood received a foot
injury Mendsy evening while vis
iting al the home of Bucko Dun
ham. The two boys were playing
in the barn when a pitch fork
thrown from the haymow bounced
and went through johnny's shoe,
piercing the foot and sticking into
the sole of the shoe.
Wsyne Martindale Is suffering
from blood poisoning in his arm
caused by a nail wound received
while helping tear away some
porches from the Henry Denn resi
dence. Mr. and Mrs. William Meeks
have purchased the place east of
the school from Mr. and Mrs. Oil-
lard Crane.
Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Moody and
children spent Sunday at the coast.

woman fought a losing battle yes
terday alone to save her
rural home from fire.
When Mrs. William Kitchell dis
covered her roof ablaze, she put
up a ladder and began a bucket
battle. She worked for half an
hour, then fell off the roof. On her
feet again, she Ran a half mile to
a neighbor's telephone and called
firemen.
The road to her dwelling was
narrow too narrow for the
fire truck. When the crew arrived
on foot with shovels and hand che
mical gear, the dwelling was in
ashes.
