LOOKINGGLASS UNIT
RE-ELECTS OFFICERS
AT OLLIVANT HOME
The Lookingglsss Home Exten
sion unit met on April 12 at the
home of Mrs. Louise Ollivant, unit
chairman. Mrs. Helen Scbulze led
the discussion of "Freezing Pre
pared Foods." A pot luck luncheon
was served at noon. The unit of
ficers were all re-elected for the
coming year, Mrs. Louise Olli
vant serving as chairman, Mrs
Anna Cornet, vice-chairman, and
Mrs. Sylvia Maddox, secretary
treasurer. Announcement was made that
the Lookingglass unit will have
charge of the textile painting ex
hibit at the Home Extension Home
makers' Festival to be held in the
Methodist church in Roseburg.

SURPRISE HOUSE WARMING
HONORS WINSTON COUPLE
Mr. and Mrs. Clell Holteen were
honored with a surprise house
warming Saturday evening, April
1.1th, at their home In Winston. The
affair celebrated completion of in
terior and exterior redecoration.
Of special interest was the unus
ual fireplace recently added to the
living room. Of white brick, the
corner fireplace has no mantle and
is made attractive by the use of
a plate glass shelf below a large
mirror and highly polished myrtle
wood book shelves on either side.
The guests attending presented Mr
and Mrs. Holteen with various
minature potted plants to be used
above the fireplace.
Visiting and group singing was
enjoyed and refreshments wen
served by the host and hostess

Mothers Are Honored
The Apadenska Camp Fire group
entertained their mothers rriday
evening at 7 o'clock at the home
of their guardian, Mrs. Lila Mc-
Kean. I he girls presented their
candle-lighting ceremony with a
program following. They sang two
songs, the guardian gave a short
talk on the advantages of attend
ing summer camp. She further ex
plained about the Candy mint
sale. The girls were awarded the
honor heads they bad earned dur
ing the last few months
Refreshments of cakes and
punch were made and served by
the girls to the following mem
bers: Mrs. Marvin Selby. Mrs.
Sylvia Gray, Mrs. Kmily Fosback,
Mrs. uurt coivin, Mrs. Martin
llalverson, and the hostess, Mrs
McKean: by the girls: Betty An
derson, Gail Gray, Lois Fosback,

CRAB DINNER HONORS

Mr. and Mrs. Victor Rico en
tertained with a crab dinner Fri
day evening at their home on 1004
Council st. Roseburg. The occa
sion was honoring the birthday of

his brother A. C. Rice. The rooms
J were decorated in arrangements of
' promroscs and tulips. The dinner
was served smorgaabord style
from the table centered with a low
bowl of scarlet tulips.
During the evening piano selec
tions were played by Victor Rice
and home recordings played of
the family. Those enjoying the af
fair were: Mr. and Mrs. Joy Rice
and daughter, Illis Fay, Mr. and
Mr. A. C. Rice and daughter Glen
da Rae, Mrs. Sadie Sheridan.
Mr. and Mrs. Abner Rice Sr., and
the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs
Victor Rice.

Mr. and Mrs. Mason Davidson
entertained Saturday afternoon
in honor of their daughter Patty's
seventh birthday. They took the
children into Roseburg to the
theater to see Cinderella and later
returned to their home in Dillard
where the birthday gifts were pre
sented the honored guest. Re

OREGON STATE COLLEGE
Invitations to the annual Mothers'
weekend activities here May 4 to
7 have been mailed to all mothers
of O.S.C. students throughout the
state and in other states and coun
tries. The annual meeting of the
Oregon State Mothers' club will
be the main business event of the
weekend, plus a round of enter
tainment prepared by the students
for their mothers.

FLOWER SHOW. SALE
Plans for a flower show and
spring ssle were discussed at Elk
ton W.S.C.S. at the meeting held
Friday at the home of Mrs.
Charles Hedden. Dates will be an
nounced later. Mra. Carl Binder
will be hostess to the group at
her home April 27 with the meet
ing to begin promptly at 10 a.m.
Eighteen ladies and four children
attended the last meeting.
INTER-SB STUDY CLUB
TO MEET ON TUESDAY
Inter-Se Study club will meet
Tuesday at a one-fifteen o'clock
luncheon at the home of Mrs. V.
V. Harpham on the Deer creek
road. The program on "Furniture

Public Library Named
The board of trustees of the Suth
erlin public library held a meeting
at the home of Mrs. Evelyn Young
Tuesday evening.
Several matters of business were
discussed and several proposals
were made in the line of trying to
raise money to buy new books.
Election of officers were as fol
lows: Mrs. Evelyn Young, presi
dent; Mrs. Meryl Wahl, vice-president:
Mrs. Leona Slack, secretary
and treasurer: Trustees Mrs
Young. Mrs. Wahl, Mrs. Flory,
Mrs. Buchanan and Mrs. Burns.
Mrs. Marian Buchanan and Mrs.
Helmie Burns were new members
added to the board. .
Mrs. Leona Slack was elected
head librarian, and she was desig
nated to assign the persons to
tend the library. Miss Dixie Willis
and Mrs. Edna Powers are in
charge of the library on Wednes
day and Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.
After the meeting Mrs. Young
served refreshments.
