Decoration Set
For Men Lost In
Russian Attack
WASHINGTON, April 21 -IJPV-The
Senate has voted decorations
to the 10 men lost in the Baltic
plane incident.
The action was taken without
dissent on the motion of Demo
I rratic leader Lucas of Illinois who
called the loss of the U.S. Navy
plane and its crew "a ruthless
action by barbarous forces."
It followed a flurry of angry
criticism of Russia on the senate
floor and a sharp retort at the
Stale department to Russian
claim that the American plane was
lost on a mission of deliberate
provocation against the Soviet un
ion. In a statement released with the
note, the department said the Rus
sians apparently had decorated the
Red aviators responsible for the
attack.
The senate resolution to award
decorations to the American fliers
now goes to the House.
It directs that each of the 10
men be awarded an "appropriate
decoration" posthumously, but
-loes not specify what the decora
tion should be.
Lucas called for a roll call vote
as a demonstration that both Dem
ocrats and Republicans were be
hind the resolution. There were
66 senators present, so the reso
lution was adopted 66 to 0.

25th Speeding Count
VAN NUYS, Calif.. April 21.-.P)
Robert G. Gardner, 37. Canoga
Park, claims be has paid $o00 in
fines, $600 in attorney's fees, 1A0
for bail and $50 for a surveyor in
the last four years trying to prove
he ass not illegally, speeding.
What's more, he says, he lost his
job as electronics engineer.
Gardner is scheduled to appear
Monday again to answer a charge
of failing to appear on his 25th
speeding count. He said he couldn't
appear: he was serving 35 days
on his 24th count.
Gardner contends police are
picking on him because he had a
stretch of Ventura boulevard sur
veyed in an attempt to prove there
were too few homo in that section
to warrant a 25-mile speed limit.
Extremely high proof, Gardner
has found.

NORTH MERRICK. N. Y April
21. (. Twelve-year-old Roy F.
X. Miles now can answer "present"
at his school roll-call even though
he is bedridden with rheumatic
fever.
Tnrough the cooperation of the
New York Telephone company and
grammar school authorities, Roy
had a special telephone installed
by his bed yesterday. The boy has
been out of school three months.
The device operates through a
microphone on the desk of Roy's
teacher, Maurice McCollum, linked
by telephone wires with a sending
and receiving apparatus.
Roy, a seventh grader, hears
more now than he did when he was
in the classroom. If a pencil falls
near the microphone, he says, it
sounds like some one falling out
of his chair.

No more "Saturday morning blues" for Roseburg tykes who find
there's "nuthin to do," and get in mommy's hair and plenty of
mischief . . , because we've found a way to alleviate this situation
with the new "Kid Frolics" which debuts tomorrow morning ... on
the air . . . 10:30 to 11:00 a. m. We're counting on an overwhelming
crowd of little folk, aged tea and under, prior to air-time, at the
Ott and RicketU Music store, corner of Cass and Jackson streets!
There, the kiddies will be treated to free gifts, a chance to par
ticipate on the show, "Kid Frolics," and perhaps to win one of
the exciting and worthwhile prizes to be given away. All this, if
they are among the first arrivals to be admitted to the store itself.

on Pacific Daylight Saving time effective with the start of business
on Sunday, April 30, 1950, and ending with the close of business on
Saturday, September 23, 1950. Therefore the present network and
