FAMILY REUNION HELD
AT BYRON HOME AT
BROCKWAY MARCH 25
A family reunion was held at
the home of Mrs. Junia E. Byron
of Brockway, March 25. This was
the first time the family had been
together in 13 years.
Attending were Mrs. Virginia
Schwartz and son, Teddy of De
troit, Mich., James W. Byron of
McNary City, Ore., Mr. and Mrs.
John Byron and daughters, Kath
leen and Becky of Tulelake,
Calif., Mrs. Norma Mackey of Cot
tage Grove. Mrs. Lucy Jennings,
Koseburg and Mrs. J. W. Byron
of Brockway.
Mis. Schwartz and son flew
west by Northwest Air Lines for
a six weeks' visit with relatives
and friends, while Mr. Schwartz is
on business in Washington, D. C.

RESIDENTS WEDNESDAY
AT WINSTON HOME
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Jones, .who
recently moved to Winston from
their former home in HoseDurg
were honored at a housewarming
party on Wednesday evening. Fit
ty-two of their friends gathered at
the Jones home bringing with
them refreshments to be served
later in the evening. They also
presented Mr. and Mrs. Jones with
a arse mirror.
Dr. Edgar Luther, pastor of the
Conservative Baptist church with
which Mr. and Mrs. Jones are
affiliated, gave a reading, after
which devotional services were led
by Glenn Miller.
Miss Mable Luther, daughter of
Dr. Luther, and a student ot the
Multonomah Bible School in Port
land, entertained with several vo
cal selections. Group singing and
visiting were enjoyed during the
remainder of the evening.
Refreshment were served to Mrs.
Alfred Davison, Mr. and Mrs. Ben
Irving, Mrs. Kmma P, Woods, Dr.
and Mrs. Edgar B. Luther and
daughters. Miss Mable and Miss

REELECTS OFFICERS
FOR COMING YEAR
The Lookingglass Woman'! So
ciety of Christian Service met
Wednesday afternoon at the home
of Mra. Cliff Harner. The meeting
was preceded by a showing of the
colored slide set prepared by the
National Woman's Division cover
ing in part the scope of the work
of the society in the United States
and abroad. This part of the pro-
f;ram waa held in the church and
argely because of the better un
derstanding thus provided of the
over-all program of the society at
large. The local group decided to
double their former pledge for mis
sions. In regular session, the devotional
service was led by Mrs. Flora
Lowden and the business meeting
conducted by the president Mrs.
Corvin Heard. Plans were made
for a fellowship dinner to be held
in the church parlors following the
services on Sunday, May 7. Com
mittees will be announced later.
A report was made on a letter
received from the superintendent
of the Jesse Lee Children's Home
in Seward, Alaska, indicating their
special need of quilts for the single
beds and that they would greatly
appreciate receiving good books for
children. These needs the local so
ciety will help supply. The superin
tendent also paid a fine tribute to
Rev. and Mrs. Gene Elliott now
stationed at Hope, Alaska. "Gene"
was a much loved pastor of the
local circuit a few years ago.
A communication from District
Superintendent S. Raynor Smith ad
vised that societies in the southern
district were contributing to a fund
to help defrsy hospital expenses
for Mis. C. E. Brittain. She has
been confined to Mercy Hospital
in Roseburg many weeks, receiv
ing treatment for a serious hip in
jury resulting from a fall on icy
pavement shortly after the first
of the year. Rev. and Mrs. Brittain
now stationed at Sutherlin were
former pastors on this circuit. The
local society expressed apprecia
tion of the opportunity to help with
the fund.
The annual election of officers
resulted in the re-election of the
president Mrs. Corvin Heard; sec
retary, Mrs. Elliott; and treasurer,
Mrs. Arthur Marsh. Mrs. Dorothea
Gateman was elected vice-president
and Mrs. Guy Harbaugh assistant
secretary. Secretaries of the var
ious departments will be announced
by the president later.
During the social hour the host
ess was assisted by her daughter-
in-law, Mrs. Ivan Harner, and Mrs.
Kessler. In attendance were Mrs.
Bessie Wylie, Mrs. Ellenwood, Mrs.
Homer Elliott. Mrs. Chas. Green,
Mrs. Corvin Heard, Mrs. Dorothy
Williams, Mrs. Guy Harbaugh,
Mrs. George Marsh and small chil

an Easter party at the Methodist
church lnursday atlernoon. Mrs.
Fred Kruse assisted. Easter lunch
eon was served at tables decorated
with spring flowers, and candles,
Easter eggs wrapped in fortunes
were used as favors.
Mrs. R. R. Clarke of Oakland
was guest speaker on her recent
tr:.i to Mexico City. She answered
many questions concerning the
country.
Mrs. Irvln Rice spoke on edu
cation through travel, touching on
exchange students and tours to
foreign Isnds. Mrs. Cabiness talked
on the 28 national parks. Current
events were given for roll call.
Mrs. Fred Merk, president, will
represent the club at a state con
vention of federsted clubs in Port
land April 20. Mrs. Cabiness will
he hostess to the club at the next
meeting assisted by Mrs. Leslie
Chapman.

April 14. Auction of boxes will
start at 7:30 p.m. All boxes are
to be decorated in Moose colors,
red and white. The boxes are to
be wrapped in while paper and
decorated with red ribbon and bow.

date for voters to register for
