Thomas Gilpin built it with bricks
imported from England,
The structure hes three stories,
w' ' beams roughly hewn from tree
truuks, faatened with wooden pegs.
One of the thick timber beams in
tl e center of the first floor ceiling
shows I long gash down the side,
a -le.n nto of the war of 1812. The
mill waa used as a granary then
and the gash was produced by over
loading the second floor with grain.
