The Cougars, with a' 10-4 record and only two games left to play, kept their shooting eyes sharpen ed by turning back the Gonzaga University Bulldogs, 52-34, in a non-conference tilt at Pullman. Tonight, Oregon State (8-5) moves to Eugene for Oregon's (5-10) windup of the season. A win for the "-avers would leav I iy a game off the pace, they dose out their slate next week against W .shington (6-7) at Seattle while Washington State and Idaho (5-8) switch home floors for their two game finale. Fast-finishing Maho, which may hold the key to the title chase, overcame a 23-20 halftime deficit with a lone range barrage in the second half that nullified Wash ington's tight, close-in zone defen se. The Ducks made a game of It against Oregon State for the most of th first half, bu w' the count knotted (t 19-all forward Bob Payne put the Beavers ahead to stay. Payn sank a free throw and field goal t- provide the spark that gave Oregon State a 27-20 lead at the intermission. Oregon closed the gap to three points early in the second period but another Beaver rally led this time by Guard Tom Holman, quickly spread the mar gin to 1. points. All their players have come to terms. Three major league ball clubs now have their rosters complete. The New York Giants' squad had previously been signed in full. Pitcher Rex Barney and infield er Bobby Morgan wired their ac ceptance of terms to the Dodgers yesterday, while the White Sox c ck second baseman, Cass Mich aels, okayed his contract by phone. The Detroit Tigers added out fielder Hoot Evers to their list. Only pitchers Hal Newhouser and Freddie Hutchinson remain out of the tiger fold. The current leader is Allan P. Fisher, Washington State college, who won the cross-country race yesterday in wet, soggy snow on the slopes of Mt. Hood. Dexter Carey, Roseburg'i fire ball juard, who t-jred the game's high of 20 'points, did the trick from close in, following Roy Van Horn's crowd pleasing gift shot that broke the 48-48 first overtime score. The ga .ie mounted in fury, when with 50 seconds remaining, Frank Jackson, reserve forward, inter cepted a Roseburg pass and con nected from the side, closing the gap to a 45-42 Indian lead. The Reedsport man followed up with a frje throw connection at 48 se conds to go. With the din of the near-capacity crowd in their ears, both teams w .istled for possession of the ball, then Chet Perry, Brave forward, launched a beautifr arching shot that slipped through the strands and 1- lotted the score at 5-all. With 33 seconds remaining, Roy Van Horn missed an opportunity to win the game and time ran out. Overtime Lead Roseburg scored first in the overtime, with Garey, who will be graduated in June, charging down the middle for a lay in, with just 18 seconds gone. Pale Blanck missed I free throw. but not Dick Froman, whose shot put Reedsport one under the In dains. But Dexter Garey again boosted the Roseburg score with a free throw, then Duaine Leggett laid one in to tie up the game again. Leggett, who was fouled, missed an opportunity to put Reedsport in the win column, as the clock showed three seconds remaining. Dale Blanck got the ball, and with the fans wildly cheering, he ran nearly all the way down the court, then missed, as the horn sounded. With the excited fans still on their feet, Roy Van Horn again connected from the gift stripe, then Carey's lay in put the In dians ahead the necessary two point that automatically ended the game. Reedsport Leads Early ?. -burg got off to a slow start. with the visitors going ahead first. Drain To Meet Glendale Team In Title Tilt Days Creek, Oakland Will Play In Semi Final Matches Tonight It will be Glendale and Drain in the finals knight for the county B league basketball championship. Outcome of last night's-games, played on Yoncalla's neutral court, ran pretty true to form, with both top seeded clubs coming through. Drain poured on the heat to drop the hapless Days Creek club, 73-41. Glendale, playing one of its most erratic contests of the year, got a scare from Oakland before posting 1 30-22 victory. Drain ran its entire ten-man squad into the contest last night, but not until the regulars had ac counted for the majority of the points. The two guards, Bob Cellars and Jerry Cade, accounted for more than half of the Drain total by post ing totals of 20 and 18 points, re spectively. Gaulke kept his Days Creek crew in the game with a 17-point per formance. Quarter scores favored Drain all the way, 16-5, 30-15, 47-24 and the final, 73-41. Glendale, relying on Big John Harbour's point-making ability, trailed at the end of the first quar ter and at the half before spurting into the lead for good midway through the third period. Harbour scored 18 points duringthe contest. From the viewpoint of the 600 plus spectators who crammed the new Yoncalla auditorium, the Oak-land-Glendale game proved tops in interest. In the final two quarters, the margin between the two teams remained t two or three points. Not until the three minute rule went into effect could Glendale in crease that bulge to any extent.
