Roseburg will greet th New Year this evening In varied forms Many will observe the quiet of their own homes listening to the New Year as it chimes its way across the country from coast to coast, via radio. Others will seek "watch parties" In churches throughout the country and many granges are participating in social nights for their members. Private homes will be the scenes of smaller groups, having invited friends in for an evening of sociability. Largest event will be at the Terrace ballroom In the Elks temple where the lodge with its large membership will hold its annual New Year's ball. Music for the occasion this year is being fur nished by the Elks orchestra. Ladies in their formal gowns, noise makers and confetti will turn the ball room Into a gala sight at midnight. The Roseburg Country club members have been anticipating New Year's eve celebration for several weeks and reservations for their dance have been filled for some time. As a climax, the double holiday find businesses throughout the state observing Monday as a free day from work. This will see an influx of visitors and Roseburgers on the highway visiting relatives and friends. Unfortunately for the younger generation, Tuesday morning will mean, "return to school" and a long stretch ahead until the next vacation day.
