Shoemaker was win ner of an impromptu Christmas experience talk at the Roseburg Klwanis club meeting Tuesday noon. He related his very unpleasant experiences of spending, in all, about nine hours attempting to clean out a clogged kitchen sink In his home from Saturday night through Monday. Still unseccess ful, he called a plumber Tuesday morning. The plumber did the job in about 15 minutes, he said. The program was arranged by Chester Morgan, who played two phonograph records, then .con ducted the brief contest. After this he had several mem bers who had been in the ser vice tell their Christmas exper iences of 1945. Col Medorem Crawford stated that he was in command of about 18,000 troops in' Paris. On Christ man day, there came an order to evacuate between 12,000 and 15,000 of his men, in order to make way for the wounded sold iers being returned from the bat tle of the Bulge. Not one complaint was regis tered from any of the men. He considered this one of the great est sacrifices by army troops, who were asked to give up their Christmas day to make way for the wounded. Marten Yoder related that he would never forget Christmas day of 1944. He said he was op erating a gas truck, when a Ger man plane came. He leaped out of the truck, but both he and the truck were strafed. He "miracu lously" escaped, he said, but the truck was ruined. Norval Easton said he was stationed at Will Rogers field, Oklahoma City. He accompanied an Army pilot to Stillwater, Tex., for a blind date. The blind date becme his wife. , , .
