rigged with a doorway booby

like character. .
The booby-trap Involved a shot
gun In a floor pit and aimed at
the door. A rat trap was found
under a loose board at the' door
way, set to release the gun trig
ger by a wire. .
Christotfersen used a pole to
deflect the gun muzzle and then
found the shell had been dis
charged. He said Stern may have
been wounded by the device and
staggered to a cot to die alone.

Margaret Truman's Personality
Given More Praise Than Her Voice
NEW YORK, Dec. 21. WP) A packed Carnegie hall audience
gave Margaret Truman an enthusiastic ovation last night, and
tha music critics though she was wonderful.
But they didn't think her voice was quite as pleasing as she was.
The president's daughter, making ' her New York debut was
accompanied by Frank Black's orchestra.
A soprano, Miss Truman sang
several Christmas songs includ
ing "Silent Night" and "O Little
Town of Bethlehem." Also on
the program: "America" and a
puccinl aria, "O Mlo Babbino
Caro."
The critics praised Miss Tru
man for her poise and personal
ity. But some didn't think much
pf her singing voice. -s
Said Virgil Thomson ot the New
York Herald Tribune:
"Miss Truman herself presents
surely a greater personal than
musical distinction. '
Commenting on her good looks,
he said few artists "have Miss
Truman's physical advantages,
and almost none other has her
dignity." -
: Robert Roleman, of the New
York Dally Mirror, said Miss
Truman "has poise and an in
gratiating manner."
