Anof her Witness Links Bridges With Communist Party SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. tf-(m A former Red leader, once im prisoned for trying to Commu nize U. S. soldiers, says Harry Bridges twice was elected to the Communist party's powerful cen tral committee. Bridges is on trail In Federal court on a perjury charge ac cused of lying when he swore, to obtain U. S. citizenship in 19 45, that he never had been a Communist. Australian born, he is president of the CIO Interna tional Longshoremen's and Ware housemen's union. The witness who testified that Bridges was a member of the central committee was Paul Crouch. He testified Thursday that Bridges was elected to the committee in 1936 under the name Dorgan. Both times. Crouch said, the Communist delegates cheered wildly when Bridges' asserted "Nom-De-Red" names were plac ed before the convention. Crouch is the sixth government witness to testify that Bridges was high in Communist circles. Previous witnesses also have said the labor leader used his mother's maiden name, Dorgan, and Ro3si for party membership. UP) Nine young men were placed on a year's probation Friday after pleading guilty ot contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Assistant district Attorney John Pickett said the men were ac cused of illicit relations last Feb ruary with an unmarried 15-year-old Powers girl, who has since given birth to a child. Cltcuit Judge Dal M. King sen tenced the nine to six months in jail, but then suspended the sentence and placed them on a year s pronation. The Judge said warrants were out for the arrest of several other men also accused In the incident. One of them is 49 years old. ' The men sentenced today were Joseph Vondell, Coos Bay; Aust tin Brothman, Harold Raymond Smith, Gerald B. Lemmon, Mar vin Madison Ford, Richard A. Wood, Daniel W. E. Wood, Frank Butcher, and Don Amos, all of Powers. Death Of Boy Aged 3 Blamed On Starvation CHICAGO, Dec. 16 UP) A coroner said today that a blind three-year-old boy "starved to death" yesterday In the home of his mother and step-father. After a post-mortem examina tion of little Thomas Nykaza, the coroner, A. L. Brodie, said "there was not a bit of food any where in his body." Brodie said the apartment was well furnished and the family dog was fat. Police held the child's mother, Mrs. Florence Ramsey, 28, with out charge. The step-father, Ed ward Ramsey, 29, a laborer, was allowed to return home after questioning to care for three other children.
