Legion, Red Cross Join
In Relief Of Disasters
WASHINGTON OP) The
American Legion and the Ameri
can Red Cross have signed an
agreement for Joint work in dis
aster relief.
It provides for using manpow
er of the big veterans organiza
tion in "Immediate and complete
cooperation with the Red Cross
and other disaster relief agen
cies." The agreement, follows up
an understanding between the
two agencies which has continued
since 1926.

Celebrating its Tenth Anniversary of broadcasting today is
Radio Station KUIN, Grants Pass, which first hit the air on
December 16, 1939. At that time Grants Pass was less than half
its present size, with a population of about 4,000. The city mush
roomed during and since the war to its present size of about
10,000. KUIN opened In 1939 as an "Independent" and joined the
Mutual-Don Lee Broadcasting system in 1942. The original staff
of three persons has now grown to 11. It is the only radip station
in Josephine county and Grants Pass. Its F. M. Station KGPO
went on the air in January, 1948.
SATURDAY: Slated for the "Comedy Playhouse" pro
duction Saturday evening is Charlea Dickens' "Christmas
at Dingley Dell," adapted for this broadoast by producer-direotor-host
Jack La Frandre and starring tht Gold
Coast Players (7-8 p. m.). To be Interviewed for the
"Meet the Press" broadcast at '8:30 will be former Air
Force Major George Racey Jordan, whose revelations 6n
the Fulton Lewis Jr. commentaries over MDL have prompt
ed two congressional Investigations (8:30-9 p. m.).
SUNDAY; Stars galore on the, schedule this Sunday start with
"The Joyful Hour" at 5:30, when more than 15 outstanding stars
of stage,, radio and screen will be spotlighted. Bing Crosby, Dennis
Day and "Met" stars Licia Albanese and Guiseppe di Stefano
will be heard as soloists on the program. They will sing liturgical
music specially linked with the Christmas holiday celebration
Dramatic and narrative roles on the program will be taken by
Ann Blyth, Maureen O'Hara, Ann Jamison, Jeanne Craine, Pedro
de Cordoba, and others (5:30-6:30 p. m.). "Salvation Army Star
Salute" at 7 will feature Lawrence Tibbett, the Carmen Dragon
orchestra, Kirstcn Flagstad, and Jean Hersholt (7-7:30 p. m.)

Christmas Tree Cutting
Beneficial, Govt. Says
WASHINGTON UP) The De
partment of Agriculture raised

many Christmas trees and an

trees stimulates the growth of

New England farmers sell Christ

pasture land. "If the Christmas

clearing might remain undone
because of labor costs."
The department estimated that
28,000,000 Christmas trees will be
put on the market this year.
