Nelson, above, newly elected chairman of the Douglas District Council of Boy Scouts for 1950, will be installed at a month ly district meeting to be held at the Roseburg Methodist church, Monday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. At that time, Nelson will also announce the name of the operat ing committee chairman for next year. All institutional reoresenta tives from each sponsoring or ganization should attend this meeting. Important Items to be discuss ed at the meeting include the new advancement plan and new or ganization plan. The camping and activities committee will pro mote their activities for 1950. Each institutional representative will be asked to make his wishes known concerning training courses. The incoming chairman has previously served as camping chairman of the Douglas district for 1949. Highlights of the entire event will be care fully compiled into a half-hour of air-time and released tomorrow evening ... 7 to 7:30 p. m. over KRNR. Governor McKay will throw the switch that brings added electricity from the first of eight power units, which will comprise the Copco North Umpqua project. In addition to Governor McKay, Dr. Paul Raver, Bonneville power administrator, and many others will address the guests assembled for this special broadcast. Recorded remarks from other distinguished guests from the Umpqua hotel civic -room will In clude the comments of Senators Cordon and Morse and Con gressman Harris Ellsworth. I., Sunday, to join her hus band, James, who has been serv ing with the United States navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Philippine Sea. If Smith is ordered to perma nent shore duty, the couple will return for ther two-year old son, who will be staying with Mrs. Smith's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Craft, Rt. 3, Melrose. In the event her husband is or dered back to sea duty, Mrs. Smith will return to Roseburg, where she has lived most of her life. Mrs. Smith is being replaced in the criminal division by Arda Sanders, who has been employed In the sheriff's office and more recently with the automobile li cense bureau, second floor, courthouse. Fred Bonebrake, county t-iviA commmee cnairman, ex plains that the ballots, which were sent recently to all known eligible voters in the county, may either be mailed to the county office at 321 Pacific Building, or deposited there by the voter in person. "Any person who did not re ceive a ballot in the mail and believes he is eligible to vote should write, call or stop In at the county office," the chairman says. In generf.l, an eligible voter is an owner, operator, tenant, or share-cropper on a farm, and is eligible to participate in any program administered during 1949 through the county and com munity PMA committees. This includes the agricultural conser vation program, the sugar pro gram and the federal crop insur ance program. Voters in each of the county's ten agricultural communities are choosing three-man committees to represent them in the local ad ministration of national farm programs. Each community will also send a delegate to a county convention to be held in the coun ty office on December 21, at which the county PMA commit tee will be chosen. Committee men serve for one year unless re-elected. Absence From Drill Costs National Guardsman $100 SPOKANE, Dec. 14. (P) A national guard military court of three officers and two enlisted men imposed a fine of $100 on an enlisted man here for a convic tion of failure to attend drill. The court was one of the first in this area to be composed of both officers and enlisted men under new national military re gulations. The new regulations permit the defendant to reauest that the court board include enlisted men as well as officers. Private James McConnell of Cheney. Wash., was the man charged and convicted. He is a member of the both National guard fighter wing. The sentence will be reviewed by the state ad- iant general and the governor.
